First off, out of the box this pedal looks hardcore and amazing. Camo with a light blue LED. I got it to mess with the EQ and boost the low end of my tone for metal a bit. It's quiet as hell, even with frequencies significantly boosted. I like the paint job because it will have people asking, "what the hell is that pedal!?" I use the sonic maximizer with the contour all the way up, and I boosted the lowest and midrange frequencies while cutting the higher lowrange a bit. It sounds divine. I was going for an Adrian Smith-type tone-slightly scooped mids with tons of bass and a Marshall rather than Mesa sound. Hate the harshness Mesa gives. But it's a classic Marshall metal tone, the hot rails/fast track 2 have about a 4/7/8 EQ, so I have bass out the wazoo now. But boosting the midrange increased the balance really well too, so it doesn't sound like a bass. I hate the Metallica/Mesa tone's harshness, but I love the searing bass, and I like mids scooped slightly for most rhythm. The GE-7 gives this effect well when set properly. I like the treble/mids/bass/gain all the way up with the presence at around 8 out of 12 when soloing, and the EQ settings I use make that sound great too. Really beefs up the sound of my strat even more. I don't really see any use for a vintage, classic rock kind of guy, because you don't need to mess with such petty things. But if you're hearing some little frequencies in your dirty tone that are just bad, get the thing. It's WAY quieter (don't hear a thing when it's on) than a stock GE-7 and it looks a helluva lot cooler.
