Re: Tonepros Locking Tailpiece

I FREAKING LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEE it.

Definately improves tone, intonation, tuning. I just trashed the stock TOM.

Re: Tonepros Locking Tailpiece

FYI a TonePros Tune-o-matic is nothing more than a $15 Gotoh with two allen screws drilled in it to lock it in place. I found no noticeable difference in tone and have them on two EC-1000's right now and I don't even bother locking them down. Look on the bottom of your TonePros and you'll see "Gotoh" stamped on there. Its not a bad idea, but IMO is not worth the $100 bump in price.

I agree! I use the TonePros locking wrap around bridge/tailpiece on my Hamer Studio Archtop and the tone is much better than the stock wrap around tailpiece. Deeper with more sustain. Less steely and a fuller, better tone.

These are NOT made from Gotoh parts. I know Steve from Pig Tail Music who came up with alot of the tooling for the Tone Pros product. In fact, he's now making his own version in light weight aluminum!

Re: Tonepros Locking Tailpiece

On the PRS McCarty, the stock bridge was calibrated to intonate for 9's & 10's
in standard tuning only. I use 11's and like to use that guitar for other tunings, since it's so articulate. I HAD to get the Tonepros for my teal black McCarty. I love it. The Tone is better. The sustain is better, and it intonates 100% perfect!

I have to admit, the stock bridge looks a little classier, but I'll never regret doing it, for it's advantages. It is a bit pricey, tho. Since my LP's intonate and sound fine, I can't see spending the money, for them, although string changes would definitely be easier and safer.

I'm not talking about the PRS replacement, we're discussing the Les Paul replacement Tune-o-matic. It is a Gotoh, I have two of them at home and they say Gotoh on the back. When I get home tomorrow (I"m at work) I'll take a picture and prove it. I've owned 5 TonePros tune-o-matics and they ALL were stamped Gotoh on the back.

Re: Tonepros Locking Tailpiece

I do agree that they're pricey. I don't know about the Gotoh thing, but they
really should be closer to $45, not $100-$133! At least Lew sells them about
as cheap as you can get them for.

Re: Tonepros Locking Tailpiece

Thanks, guys. Maybe I'll check one out.

Re: Tonepros Locking Tailpiece

Does anyone know the best place to buy one? And is there a difference between buying the "set" and the bridge and tailpiece seperately? Much thanks...:)

Re: Tonepros Locking Tailpiece

I've got one installed on my LP wannabe, and I can't say that it was the cure for for then badly intonated axe (I put on an Earvana at the same time). I noticed a tiny bit more sustain, and the part was very well made (by Gotoh!) but for the price, I'm not too sure I'd do it again. You can purchase them from John at Blackrose for a good price.

Re: Tonepros Locking Tailpiece

Lew must not have these listed on his website. I've perused it top to bottom, and haven't seen these. ;)

Re: Tonepros Locking Tailpiece

I've got the locking bridge on my Epi Dot and the locking studs holding down the stock wrap bridge on my '54 Les Paul. I noticed a change in both guitars after installing these. Change for the good, I should add. You can feel the strings vibrate in the body more. There's a slight increase in sustain and the "body" of the note, slight, but there.

Re: Tonepros Locking Tailpiece

Alvin Lee Fan, I'm a fan of your playing Bro. I especially like your Dot/Seths clip and have a couple others including the 57's clip. Do you have any more? I burned the ones I have to my Misc blues CD and listen to them all the time in the car. Great phrasing and note selection !! :headbang:

Re: Tonepros Locking Tailpiece

I do have them. My website is being revised as we speak...I'm embarassed by and no longer agree with some of the opinions I expressed on it when I first put it together! New Duncan prices and lots of new stuff! New reviews, pre wired pickguards, TonePros, pickup shoot outs, etc. Should be done by early next week. Lew

I got the ABR replacement for $65, and maybe it does say Gotoh (I didn't think to check), but I don't care. I don't have the ability to drill those hole and put in the allen screws, the saddle travel has more room, and I immediately noticed increased sustain. :bigthumb:

Cool Lew . . . looking forward to checking it out. :32:

Anyone use them on a LP type guitar? What do you think?

Hey bud. I have the Tonepros AVRII Bridge and Locking LWTP. It is the greatest addition to my R8. I had them on my R9, as well, before it sold.

They make life very easy. I highly recommend both pieces. For your R7, make sure you look into the AVRII - this is the vintage bridge piece.

Best,
Lee Moore
