I think there's a slight increase in sustain, but more importantly, the bridge and tailpiece are solidly locked down. Not only does it make string changes easier, but it eliminates any bridge wobble which can cause tuning and intonation issues. I would get either the bridge and tailpiece set, or the bridge and a set of the locking tailpiece studs. If you do it that way, you can use the tailpiece you already have.
One other note, the idea is pretty simple. If you know a good machinist, they could easily turn any TOM bridge set into a Tonepros locking set. A couple people have gone that route with excellent results. Much cheaper too.
