Tonepros??

Any opinions on the tonepros stuff? Been thinking about putting them on my LP and was wondering if it would be worthwhile. Bridge? Tailpiece? Both?
Any thoughts/experience would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Tonepros??

I'd love to know if there really is any tonal improvement, as just having something that doesn't fall off when I change the strings isn't worth that much money to me. :)

There's a great search function button near the top right. Lots of good info on TP.

You're right Scott. I use the Search all the time at the LPF. Forget to do it here!

Re: Tonepros??

I accually just got my TonePros bridge in the mail today. I don't really notice a huge increase in sustain, it doesn't jump out at you or anything. I bought mne used for $40 off of Ebay. I've been holding off for months trying to score a used one at a decent price. Mine looks basically brand new. I probably wouldn't pay the full $60 for a new one. They should deffinately be cheaper than what they are right now.

Re: Tonepros??

I think there's a slight increase in sustain, but more importantly, the bridge and tailpiece are solidly locked down. Not only does it make string changes easier, but it eliminates any bridge wobble which can cause tuning and intonation issues. I would get either the bridge and tailpiece set, or the bridge and a set of the locking tailpiece studs. If you do it that way, you can use the tailpiece you already have.

One other note, the idea is pretty simple. If you know a good machinist, they could easily turn any TOM bridge set into a Tonepros locking set. A couple people have gone that route with excellent results. Much cheaper too.

Re: Tonepros??

I dunno. My opinion is that they're kinda unnessesary for Les Pauls, and the only use I've found that makes them worth the cost is on McCarty stoptails, when you need to intonate for alternate tunings. I found that the McCarty's preset intonation was only good for certain string gauges in standard tuning, and that I needed the Tonepros for dropped D or Open G with 11's. Otherwise, the stock setup is fine.

+1. I agree. I've been playing LP's for close to 24 years now and i've never felt the need for these things. Never had any problems with my Paul's stock Bridge and Tailpiece. More sustain??? Who needs more sustain on an LP??? C'mon now.

Re: Tonepros??

Thanks for all your input. I'm not really looking for more sustain, just thinking about better intonation and so forth. I've only had my "new" 97 Standard for about a week, so I'm just contemplating any changes to make it a little better.
