Tonerider neck humbucker: Rocksong vs Alnico II Classics

Hi guys,
This is a quick one, I ordered a Tonerider Rocksong for the neck on my partscaster project. Sadly, the courier lost the package; however, amazon refunded me and told me to place a new order. Sadly, the Rocksong is out of stock, which made me think about getting the Alnico II Classics.
I was between those two at the beginning and chose the Rocksong from advice in a forum. I like the sound of both (on youtube) and I want to put one in the neck of my partscaster to get more sustain, more power (than my single coil) and a sound similar to Slash (if possible). Here's what it says on their website:

Rocksong: "The neck pickup is smooth and sustainful - perfect everything from jazz to distortion saturated rock."
AC2 Classics: "At higher gain settings, the Alnico II Classic really nails the fluid distortion sound of players like Slash, who use the smooth attack and longer sustain of the neck to great effect during solos,"

They both have similar "hotness" (DCR) and very similar inductance. I have a no-name hot humbucker on the bridge, similar to the Generator on DCR, which I may chose as a replacement if I like this one.

What do you think? Have you tried those pickups?

Cheers,
Walter

I have the a2 but have swapped the magnets out a few times.

It uses a polished A2 mag. It sounds alot like a old/early 57 classic. Its very thick in the mids and warm. Big lows/low mids. Sounds a bit bigger/wider than a Seth or PG. Think Gary Moore moreso than Slash.

I nearly got a set of the Tonerider the alnico 2 classics -they sound great on the demos but I got a lucky break and a set of SD APH1s came up used for the same price. People will probably slate me for saying it, while I love the APH1s, I think my Gibson classic 57 PAF reissues are nicer, much more like the late 50s tone I have been searching.
I find the APH1s to sound quite a bit hotter than the Gibson event though DCR is close.

All good pickups though, Alnico 2 gives me my favourite tones I most pickups.

I think Classic 2s and 4s are the same wind pickup too, but with A2 or A4 magnets, which if true lends itself to something you can play around with without busting the bank.

According to the Tonerider website the scatter is different. Still, they will be close to eachother though. If he is after the Slash sound, he'll like the Alnico 2 better.
If the Rocksong is out of stock, I would get the Alnico 2 Classic instead. I am pretty sure you will like it!!
Shame your package got lost by the way!!

That's right, the scatter is quite different between AC2 and AC4, also between AC2 and Rocksong. I'll wait a couple of days to see if the Rocksong becomes available, if not I'll go for the AC2 Classics. But I think I'm leaning more towards the Classics, definitely one with an Alnico II magnet.

Thanks, it really is a shame that I order the last pickup and the package gets lost. Two couriers handled the delivery and they both say it has been delivered...

Ah ok, I was speaking off the top of my head on the similarity score, and hadn't checked the detail :)

Re: Tonerider neck humbucker: Rocksong vs Alnico II Classics

I've just fitted a Rocksong(bridge)/AC4 (neck) combo into a Les Paul style guitar. I'm very surprised and impressed.
I was pretty sceptical about these, but wanted to find out for myself if they could cut it. And I have to say yes, they are the real deal!
They replaced a set of EMG-HZ's. The guitar went from shrill and nasty to smooth and tasty.
Very usable tones. The overdriven sounds are smooth with nice clarity and they clean up really well.
Fantastic bang for the buck.

Cheers,PJ
