Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

Are these military spec tubes difficult to come by or are they still being produced right along side EL34s and 6L6s?

Sounds awesome, and $210 is a great price for a pedal like this.

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

Im not sure where to get the tubes or if they can even be gotten by most people but it is my understanding that they are quite sturdy and run at low enough voltages in the SFX-03 that they should never need to be changed. Evan, correct me if I am wrong...

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

Am I correct in thinking that this is a 'British' voiced pedal?

I may be wrong, but I'm sure Evan mentioned this to me at UK UGD in the bar after he'd had a drink ;)

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

Brow,

It really seemed to morph to sound like the amp...when I used it with my Twin Reverb it still sounded like my Twin but a mid or high gain version of my Twin...then againb, when used with my Sound City it still sounded like my Sound City.

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

TGWIF...since you used it for a while how much gain are we talking here? enough for some metal or just enough for some heavy rock?

also Evan, can i have Greg's job lol. i'd kill to do graphics for a pedal or something, man that would be cool! :)

i was kind of looking for something like this. i got a laney LC15 (dont know if its the reverb one or not) on order and i intend to remove the guts and stick it into a head with an inbuilt distortion effect, kind of like adding a high gain channel. this sound EXACTLY what i need. adding two channels to the amp, should bring it into heavy metal meltdown!! :headbang:
so it's clean/overdriven tubes -> heavy crunch -> metal meltdown!!!

and what's more. it's ALL TUBE BWAHAHAHA.. i need this thing!!!.. like, right now

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

The size is a bit smallewr than the prototype I had so Im not sure about the size now, the list price is right around $300 USD while it looks like it will be selling for just over $200 USD.

Mike, I'll tell you this, Evan has said that they gave the first channel a bit more gain that the prototype I had (which is a good thing) and if so that should get you pretty close to classic rock gain as for the 2nd channel it's got a sh1t load of gain on tap...even you should be pretty happy!

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

this does sound like it will be a sweet pedal! can't wait to try one out!

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

The tubes are NOS USA-made Phillips Sylvania.

OK.... ready to see what this puppy looks like?

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

Classy as hell looking....big shock, yeah????

WOW....and me just scooping up a Fulldrive 2 Ltd. Ed.:smack:

I'd be very interested in A/B'ing this with my Mesa Bottle Rocket, which uses 2 12AX7s........ALSO, Alf Hermida has been working on a tube version of the combined Zendrive/Mosferatu..........

Looks like the ante has been upped in the stompbox world!!!!!:beerchug:

Hey Evan: When in "bypass", does the LED stay lit for whichever channel is "on".......so when you hit it out of "bypass", you know if it'll switch to rhythm or lead??????

When it's bypassed, you can tell, by looking at the LED, which channel you'll hit when you turn it on.

And yes, the unit is true bypass.

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

D@MN.................I need a bigger pedalboard!!!!!:smack:

All my pedals are HUGE !

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

I'm guessing this is going to be a BIG competitor to the Vox Cooltron range (over the top boost and big ben OD, maybe even the Bulldog) and it seems that it'll be a bit cheaper. Hopefully it'll be in the UK.
So I'm guessing it can work like a Jekkyl and Hyde then? Use the first channel as a clean boost or an OD, then crank the distortion? How much gain does it have?

Thanks Evan for a good read and for telling us before the rest of the world ;)

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03
