Re: TOO much false info on web - post pics and info on pups YOU'VE torn down
Stock bridge humbucker from a Godin Core. It's a G&B with ceramic mag. Single, thick ceramic magnet. Flanking the magnet on each side are double stacked plastic spacers.
Baseplate removed.
The neck bucker is the same, just not wound quite as hot, although they are both pretty hot (near 11K neck and just over 12K bridge).
The neck was intermittent and I traced it back to a damaged hot wire where it entered the outer jacket of the lead, behind the tape. These were factory terminated as two wire pickups but they are all set up for 4 wire.
The ground is tied to the shield and the series link is tied together under factory heat shrink at the end of the cable so only the bare shield and hot wire were exposed for hookup. They could have easily been wired to split just by cutting off the heat shrink at the end of the cable to get to the extra wires buried there.
I didn't take a photo of the neck pickup but since I had to repair/replace the damaged hot wire, I just went ahead and replaced with vintage braid. I don't and never will coil split these pickups and since the switch and jack has been wired with braided cable, I decided to do the same when replacing the damaged lead for the neck pickup. Then, of course, I had to re-wire the perfectly functioning bridge pickup just so it would match.
Photo of the bridge pickup after removing the tape, cutting back some of the lead and pulling the outer jacket.
After re-wiring with the braided cable and soldering connections at the pickup.
Taped back up.
A bit of a PITA with the mini pots (Bourns) but all wired back up in the control cavity.
So, why bother messing with a set of cheap, ferrite mag, Asian import, factory pups? Nope, I wouldn't put these in everything I own, but I love these pickups in this guitar. They are different. They really don't do clean very well. But the neck isn't muddy, the bridge doesn't cause ear bleeds and there is an awesome grit and raunch to these pups that does dirty blues and rock really well. They sound frickin awesome with a rangemaster into a Marshall. I love them in this guitar.
