They're replacing a SD Jazz Neck and SD C5 bridge. There was nothing really wrong with my old setup, I liked some of the tones but I wanted to have access to some more tones.
That being said, after one day with the pickups the most impressive thing about them is how usable all the sounds are. The volume differences aren't even that big of a deal. The P-90 keeps up really well with the humbucker sounds. I really bought this for the P-90 but I'm finding I really like the parallel humbucker sound as much if not more.
