Seeings how we all swap out the pups anyways. I'd like an explorer (I really like a V more) but you already have one brisk . Aren't explorers heavy? yes. So I think that it would be great. But I have never tryed one.

Can't vouch for the sound, but in the looks department I'd go Explorer all the way - probably ways to counter the brightness if you found it to be too bright - plus if you got tired of the natural look it probably wouldn't take to much to repaint it one day. utahere:

mostly because I prefer mahogany on 24.75 scale guitars. I do like ash strats because ash is brighter and snappier and to me suits a strat nicely. But I personally wouldn't want that bright, snappy tone in an Explorer - I would want thicker and darker tone in that style guitar.

I'd go with the SG as well. My sentiments are pretty much like TC's......plus that Explorer looks like more of a cutting board to me in stead of a guitar. It makes me wanna turn it over and start dicing up some onions.

yeah, or maybe slicin up some fresh hot bread..... i guess the explorer wins in the multipurpose department :laugh2:

Y'know tha could be a cool business ... building chopping boards made in the shapes of guitars like the LP, Strat, Dreadnought, Explorer

oh ok, i misunderstood. i was talking about a '76 explorer vs. SG standard, i forgot the whole thread was about the ash explorer. oops.

so yeah, in this dudes case, get the SG. unless you go for a regular explorer.
