Tortex Wedge

I haven't started a pick thread in awhile, so here goes...

After years of using regular Tortex picks (usually .88mm), I got a bag each of the Pitch Black and Flex, each in .88mm. Pitch Black seems the same as normal, but I really like the Flex picks. They're supposed to have more give like celluloid, but I think the feel a little more stout.

Now, has anybody tried the Tortex Wedge picks? The day will likely end with me ordering a 12 pack from Amazon, but between now and when I inevitably do that, I'm curious to hear what anybody thinks about them.

I play Yellow .73s normally on electric and haven't really experimented with a different grip surface like Wedge -should I?

On acoustic, I've gotten hooked on wooden picks after buying a bunch in Ireland last year. I love the feel of wooden picks on big strings.

Re: Tortex Wedge

I started using regular Tortex like 25 years ago, always try new stuff, but wind up coming back. I *think* I like the Tortex Flex better, so I'd say that's worth trying.

Re: Tortex Wedge

I've been playing the orange .60mm Tortex picks for about 18 years. I was curious about the Wedge, but I kind of went the other direction. I've always like the size of the the Jazz and tried a few variations but couldn't get used to the feel of the materials, so I kept going back to the Tortex. I recently discovered that in the Pitch Black line they make a .60mm Tortex in the Jazz size/shape. It has been awesome. They are more precise for lead but still grip well for strumming. I'm in love with these picks, I don't know how I didn't find them before now.

Re: Tortex Wedge

Personally I would love it if they came out with a Tortex pick thicker than the purples. I have tried metal and wood picks but really like the Tortex feel.

I use the purple tortex. You can get 1.5 and 2.0 mm delrin picks. I have a few laying around.

Re: Tortex Wedge

Jazz III's are a little small. Jazz III XL's a hair big. Planet Waves Black Ice are right in the middle. Perfect size but it's either a .80 or a 1.10. Wish they offered a .88

Re: Tortex Wedge

I have a pick made of Mammoth tusk which was about 1mm but over time it started to get a curve in it from my thumb and I can't get it back out even after turning it around and heating it then pressing it in a vice so I shelved it.
I got a really cool pick from treyhaislip (sp?)made from a vinyl record which is pretty cool but it gets grooves on it if you pick slide so it also gets limited usage but its still cool to mess with sometimes.
I also have some stylus picks which will challenge your manhood cause if you dig too deep it'll about stop you in your tracks. Great pick to practice with though cause it'll get you in good form.

Re: Tortex Wedge

I remember the Stylus pick. The intent was to get you to pick with as little pick as possible.

I have a buffalo horn pick I like for mandolin. None of the exotic stuff is worth using on electric.

Re: Tortex Wedge

Yea I guess the stylus pick was intended for that, youre right. I got it from my old guitar teacher years ago.. Tried finding it after I posted that but hard to say where it got to... You know how that goes... Buffalo horn would be pretty cool, prob same concept as that Mammoth tusk I had. Cool thread on a topic not often discussed.

Re: Tortex Wedge

Thank you Davidravenmoon, jbfromhell, et al. I had no idea I could get thicker picks of the same material!

Re: Tortex Wedge

Lately I've been using purple Tortex with my heavy string gauge downtuned guitars and blue Tortex with my light string gauge half step down tuned guitars.
Id previously been using Ultex Sharps and Hetfield Black Fangs for a number of years.

Re: Tortex Wedge

Is there a physical size difference between the Wedge and Standard or TIII picks?
