Tough decision

I'm looking at two amps at the moment..

Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier 100W
or
Orange Rockerverb with distortion pedal for heavy rhythm stuff

Both will cost me about the same amount.
I'm after something really really versatile.. i play rock (Muse, U2, Hendrix), death metal (Born of Osiris, Amon Amarth), jazz and post-rock.
I'm using an ESP Ltd H-400 with duncan JB/59 pickups.
I've played through the amps and fell in love with both of them, so I'm kinda stuck.

Any thoughts?
cheers

Re: Tough decision

Judging by your description you're better off with Mesa. The Dual Rect is a metal monster! Pedals through amps usually don't sound as good as amp distortion. Mesa has great modern metal sounds. Mesa has some great cleans too.

Re: Tough decision

I personally prefer the orange, but I'm pretty biased as I bought an orange over a different mesa. I think the mesa will be better suited for more modern voicings where the orange will nail the classic tones more convincingly. That's not to say the orange won't do heavy metal, cuz it will and without a pedal, but it won't sound anything like the mesa while playing the same stuff.

Re: Tough decision

well ... the world of black metal can use a bit of a good tone, that is treble string tone that is not not plastic sounding and thin. From all the clips of Orange that I've heard orange will get uber-gain with a pedal but you will also have a great brit voiced crunch and charachter ...
