What;s all the speakers? EV+c90 on bottom? Peavey stocks on top?

Honestly never pulled the back on the 5150 so presume Sheffields but M/B Cab has Celestion G12T-75.

After adjusting the EQ and presence a bit, switching off the bright switch and rolling the treble off the tone knobs slightly it sound pretty incredible. Was able to get close to what I would think of as some Social D and GnR type tones pretty easily, both of which I love.

So the 5150 has only one input to plug in a cab but the cab has two side by side at the top and one on the bottom. Only one speaker is playing this way; the top one. Excuse my ignorance as this is the first time I've tried an extension cab; both speakers work so how do I get both playing with one plug in on the 5150?

unless your amp has the option to use an external cab AND the combo speakers then you can. But if it does not then you cannot without modding and that is not really worth it lol

Thx for the reply. I appreciate it. No plans on modding. Just plugged it into the Altec 1x15 and it sound good as well - more full and not quite as edgy. Again adjusting amp/guitar settings and I'm dialing in some equally cool tones with the Altec Cab just as I did with the Mesa Cab.

As I'm acquiring both cabs; I'll watch for a cool head at a decent price to come up on local CL or at Music Go Round that I can use with the Mesa Cab.

I have no doubt that sounds awesome!! I can no longer stand cranked speakers at my ear level.....because I did too much of that when I was younger!! :boggled:

So I keep 'em side by side these days, and spread apart for true stereo effect.

Not too sure OP.In my experience, adding more speaks actually soaks up the volume and makes it less pointed and easier to play through more loud. As long as you have one bottom straight or hybrid straight /angled cabinet, and one top angled cabinet, its the best of both worlds- big dynamic bass with the bottom cab. , and less wattage distrubtion to the speakers pushing your top cabinet, it's going to reduce spike, and give a rounder and less forced sound. It's the main reason I run full stack 100 watt rigs if I can.

Exactly!!! Perfectly described.

My back hurts just imagining lifting the 5150 on top of another speaker cab. I bet it sounds great, though. I love the 5150 sound.

What? It's only 78 pounds! ;) I like the 5150 a lot; made me stop using my overdrive and distortion pedals as I had to with my '78 JMP 2104 2x12 Combo. Only thing it doesn't do is "clean".

Boogie cab "should" have a Mono jack + 1 for each speaker...

Yes; that's what it has two at the top and one on the bottom. I've tried plugging the connection cable into both top inputs and it only gives me the top speaker, the bottom input gives the bottom speaker.

That's not a factory wiring.

I had one of those cabs, and I currently have the 4x12 version. Yours is definitely not stock. They didn't come with a top panel, so the only stock jack there is the bottom one. They either came with a single input like yours or a stereo-capable input like this. I took the picture from a 4x12 but they're functionally identical:

Also, if you want to talk about a real tower of power, check this bad ***** out.

If I recall; on the Mesa DC-2 it had three speaker inputs...one for the combo speaker and one on either side for additional speakers so I was able to use two cables and plug in both speakers from the Mesa/Boogie Cab and they were operational.

I just purchased both cabs today. I'm liking the 1x15 with the 5150 and I'll probably hold out and pick up a Mesa Head for use with the M/B Cab.

Re: "Tower of Power" or "Oh My God...I Think My Ears Are Bleeding"

The Altec 1x15 sounded nice and smooth but it paled in comparison to how the Mesa Cab sounded. So I swapped the Mesa Cab back under the 5150, piggybacked one of the two top inputs into the bottom speaker input then plugged the other top input to the 5150 and both speakers in cab are working just fine. The pairing just sounds "right" and it's f'n awesome tonally. Lovin it.
