Trade-in value for a DSL50

I was in a music store this weekend and asked what the trade-in value is for a mint DSL50. I was told $600-$700 depending on condition. Doesn't that seem pretty reasonable? If I sold it to an individual I'd get something similar I'd think? This way I'd also get out of paying tax on $600-700 of my purchase b/c of TX tax laws.

I have never traded-in anything before b/c you usually get screwed quite nicely IMO.

If you sell it to an individual you should do better because remember, a store is going to buy that amp at a price lower then they can sell it for.

I think that's the point of his question, used prices for DSLs seem to be around the $700-800 mark. For a store to offer so close to that amount on a trade in is surprising.

They are probably just telling you that price to get you in the door. In my experience, a shop will not even talk price without seeing the piece first.

Re: Trade-in value for a DSL50

i know standard operating procedure in a retail music store is to offfer half of the wholesale cost on a trade or sale item. lets say your dsl listed for $1,000. the wholesale would be roughly 500 so the trade in would be 250. (this is an example only, i know dsl's list for much more) now heres where most stores get the score. when you trade in, it does not go towards thier cash price of what your trading for, it goes towards the full retail. so say theres a guitar your trading for that retails for 1,000 but they will sell it for 800, if you trade in on it, they would say 250 off 1,000 and you pay 750. hope this helps

yeah, that's how it is most of the time. I saw a silverface bandmaster at GC one time for 1200 bucks!!!! I got my blonde bandmaster for 600!!!

Re: Trade-in value for a DSL50

I'd try and sell it off a local website and see if there are any takers. If not, go ahead and see if you can maximize a trade in. But be the store retailer yourself, if you catch my drift. Why let a retailer sell it for $800 when you, yourself can do the same?

Peace.
