Trade SRRI for a Bassman LTD RI?

I've been trying to sell my SRRI locally for a few months now. So far, zero offers. It's notoriously hard to move gear over $500 around here and given the weight and size of this amp, I don't want to consider shipping it.

I just got ano offer from a guy here to straight up trade for his '59 Bassman LTD RI.

Thoughts?

is it an amp youll use? i had one before and had a lot of fun with it. channels jumped with the volumes on 8 is a fantastic rock and roll sound but its LOUD

Re: Trade SRRI for a Bassman LTD RI?

Well that's the million dollar question. The reason I'm selling the SRRI is because I don't use it. It's a gorgeous sounding amp, but it's very heavy and awkward to move, so it sees almost no gig use. With the gigs I've been playing lately, the amp I am using is my 5E3 with an attenuator. However, we did some outdoor gigs in the summer and I decided to bring the SRRI to one and it sounded much better simply due to the spread of the 4 10's.

the bassman is just as bulky and a little less heavy than the srri. closer in tone to your 5e3 but not all that close

Re: Trade SRRI for a Bassman LTD RI?

They are a tad easier to move since they don't have wheels and are a hair shorter but they are still big, heavy and loud amps.

That said I'd take a Bassman LTD over a SRRI any day of the week and twice on Sunday!

ugh... not a fan of 15's in guitar amps

Re: Trade SRRI for a Bassman LTD RI?

I love the Bassman, but I don't think I would do that trade unless I sat with the two amps side by side and really compared them. The cool thing about the SR is the Reverb! But the Bassman has some things you can do to it to make it a little warmer and fuzzier around the edges.

Now if the size is really bothering you, and he was offering up a Pro Reverb, Tremolux or Bandmaster stack, Concert, Fender 75, Pro-Sonic; or even one of the Music Man combos like the 210-65/130--then I'd say probably yes, due to the size difference. Those are all amps with great clean tones, and more manageable size and weight.

But you've got to play the amps side-by-side before you decide.

Re: Trade SRRI for a Bassman LTD RI?

Thanks guys. I'm setting up a time to go try this guy's amp out. I have a feeling that I will go for the trade.
a) I don't have much use for reverb (of which the Super Reverb has way too much)
b) My musical style over the past couple years has really moved toward the Tweed sound.
c) They're about equally valued on the used market, so not really anything to lose. I don't play the SRRI as it is, so really, if I get an amp that's something I do use then all the better.
d) It's a local deal, so no risk in getting something in the mail that I haven't seen/heard. If I don't like it, I can just walk away.

Re: Trade SRRI for a Bassman LTD RI?

I would. I've had both amps before, and knowing that you're playing Keith in a Stones cover band, it's a better fit with a tele for that sound.

Here's a trick I did with mine. Plug into Bright 1, run an EH Holy Grail between Bright 2 and Normal 1. Use the Normal volume to mix in the reverb. This works on all 4 input amps to mix reverb into the front without compromising the direct signal.

I got to try this one out...

To be completely honest, I WAS originally thinking of using the funds from the sale of the SRRI to buy a low power Tweed Twin kit. So really, either way I'd have a 40w-ish tweed amp. And you're right, with the Stones stuff I've been playing, the tweed voicing really suits my style.

Funny, just about everything I've been moving toward gear-wise is to more and more vintage sounds. I'm primarily playing a 5E3 or my '73 Champ, all my Fender guitars have been fitted with 50's style pickups, I even just ordered a Script Logo MXR Phase 90, and I'm trying to sell my Boss DD6 as we speak and replace it with an MXR Carbon Copy analog delay.

I've been in delay mode lately. I've always liked the SD Deja Vu, but the Boss DD-7 is pretty impressive as a digital pedal with rack-like capability.

There's a ton of good delays out there. The newest one to consider is the Way Huge Echo Puss with graphics that are limited to 500. I want one of these.

Just so you know Joe, they're still going to make the Echo-Puss after the first 500, just without graphics. Which is good IMO - Ed Hardy sucks.
