Hello to everyone!!

It's been a long time since my last post. This last months I've been posting on a Spanish forum so my English got even worst!! :smack:

Well, I've got an DM Paf classic combo and thoose are airbuckers. This means they have a plastic spacer between the magnet and the pole pieces. Paf classics aren't so good pickups in my opinion, neck it's fine and bridge lacks a bit of punch. I've been thinking in transforming the bridge in a regular alnico V pickup. This way I'll have an alnico V on bridge and a kind-of-alnicoII on the neck, which I think it's a nice combo :D !!

Has anybody tried to remove this spacer? Is it worth trying?

You can remove the plastic spacers and special dimarzio slug poles and replace them with a metal screw keeper bar and regular slug poles to make the air bucker a full strength bucker
this will increase the output and the tone will change somewhat.
here is where to get the parts you will need http://www.ampge.com/components.htm

If you just remove the plastic spacers it will STILL not be a regular strength pup( the magnet HAS TO make contact with pole set of poles)

Thanks, I guess I'll open them any way. Did experience any improovement in tone?

when you remove the plastic spacers and replace with regular parts the pup gains quite a bit more output, the bass will be tighter and the treble a bit more present
