Transformation of a DS-1

I think John does the best pedal mods I have ever heard!

He's rebuilt a few Vox Wahs for me and also a couple of TS-9's.

I've tried John's DS-1 mod too. It makes for a DS-1 with more gain, a fuller tone and more bottem end. Perfect if you're using the DS-1 as a stomp box that you stomp on for soloing and then stomp off for playing rythym.

I don't use a DS-1 that way...if I'm going to use one I tend to set it for low distortion and then I leave it on all the time and use it as more of a boost than a distortion generator that I stomp on and off.

But John is clearly one of the guys here with great ears and taste.

I liked the modded DS-1 he sent me to try alot more than the Keeley Seeing I modded DS-1 I had.

Lew....What a sweetheart you are! Reading posts like this makes me happy, but when someone like you(Who I trust and admire and value your opinions)writes something like this, puts me in a whole nuttha place! Thanks buddy....You'll always be one of my favorite forum brothers and a friend! :beerchug:

Oh Lew.....That mod is terrible! LOL.....Very "hi fi " sounding....Nothing against Robert(Great guy)but that SEM is really bad tonally...

A few years ago he posted the SEM on the net and I tryed it...Sucked....That's when I called and spoke to Robert and asked him if(An actual guitar player)LOL...could offer some constructive criticism about that mod...He was pretty receptive, but kept offering that mod...LEDs and Mica caps aren't a good match to my ears in the DS1....

That pedal sounded "Hi Fi" sterile and imitation to my ears....Not sure about his Ultra mod,but I'd hope it's better than the SEM? Robert isn't even a player and I Guess he uses other player's ears when he voices stuff? He's one of the nicest down to earth guys I've spoken to though...

Re: Transformation of a DS-1

My DS-1 is in the hands of the Master as we speak. :)

Can't wait.

Re: Transformation of a DS-1

so does that means I got lucky when I didn't buy a keeley mod TS9 or DS-1 ?
haha

I'm looking into a modded compressor though. I just can't live without it

Most of his stuff is really cool from what other people tell me? I just thought his SEM was harsh, sterile, and hi fi sounding....With guitar amps and effects,we don't want hi fi,we want great tone!

Nope....Guys send them to me,I Mod em,and send em back...That way I don't sit on any pedals..
Have you ever tried any mods on a Boss ME-50? is it do-able?

Re: Transformation of a DS-1

you are not alone guitar toad.

i got a spina modded ds-1 and its the only pedal i use. it has some serious mojo happening after it went through john's hands! i am even considering either sending my maxon od-9 to john or sell it since its slowly decomposing in a corner of the house since i got the ds-1.

Probably, but only interested in doing the single duty stomp box pedals and not multi-effects...

Re: Transformation of a DS-1

Do you have more than one modification scheme for the DS-1? If I got a 2nd DS-1 and sent it to you could you do something totally different but equally cool? Or for the next pedal I send your way would I be better off to get a SD-1 or TS-7 or a Sparkle Drive?

Keep me from redundant typing and do a search on TS9 mods...Basically the same pedal from memory?:laugh2:
