transforming my CC into a full shred ?

i read in another thread i can't find about someone wanting to change the pole pieces to the appropriate hex screws. i just have a couple of questions though, first is it really possible ? any things to keep in mind during the procedure ?
also, what winding does the full shred has ? i read somewhere it is similar as a JB, but somewhere else that is has the custom winding. which is true ?

now, let's follow that scenario. assuming the full shred has the JB's winding and not the custom's, then changing the magnet to an A5 and changing the pole pieces will logically make my CC into something else but not the full shred. how different will it be ?

Re: transforming my CC into a full shred ?

why? just buy one. At least then you can choose between two working pickups. You can sell the one you dont like.

Re: transforming my CC into a full shred ?

that's just the problem. it might save me half the price if not more of buying a new pickup and having it installed.

Re: transforming my CC into a full shred ?

it will cost more if you kill your pickup. Or you may find that the time and effort you put into it might just make it sound less like what you are after - and you are left with a pickup nobody wants.
It might be worth checking out guitarfetish. I have installed maybe half a dozen different sets into various axes and the results have all been good. If you want to save some money they are an excellent pickup option.
Or - just try a magnet swap in your cc. It will give you some new sounds and it is reversible.

cost a lot more ? i'll keep that in mind then. i guess i could just go for that option and not risk too much.

It's not really possible to pop out the slugs and replace them with hexheads. You'd be better off selling the CC and buying a Full Shred, you'd spend about the same amount of money trying to convert it.

GFS (Guitar Fetish) has tons of great pickups though. I don't think they have anything that's exactly like the Full Shred, but the Crunchy Pat is like the Custom, and Fat Pat is like the Custom 5. The VEH is another good one, as are both Rail pickups, and the Mean 90 if you want something different. (The Mean 90 actually can get pretty tight.)

how come i'd never heard of GFS before ? thank you so much for that, this is precious information.
