Trapped between tones

So until yesterday, I had a Duncan Custom in the bridge of my Les Paul. Then I put in a 59b yesterday. There are things that I really love about both pickups. And things the both pickups seem to lack for me. I LOVE the push of the Custom. I love the openness of the 59. And now I am torn on which one I like better. Now logically the C5 should be the answer. The push of the Custom wind with the tonal curve of the 59... Except that it really doesn't work like that. At least not to my ears. The 59 would be perfect if it had a bit more defined chunk on the lower strings like the Custom. The ability to feel fast moving notes on the low e string. Perhaps I'm over analyzing this too much. Lol. Just an observation.

Re: Trapped between tones

The first thing that came to my mind for what you're looking for was the C/59 hybrid. Sounds a lot like the 59... but bigger, wider range EQ, more open, a bit more mids, more push, tighter low end.

Re: Trapped between tones

As another idea besides the hybrid, have you ever tried a Demon? It's very open and has great definition on the low strings. A different pup, not real PAF-like, but cool for heavier stuff that needs good string separation.

Re: Trapped between tones

Yes, I have had the Demon is several guitars. However, the Demon does not play well with the 5153.

Yeah, I remember you posted a video playing the SH5 & 59 a couple of days ago. Sounded perfect the way it was! But since you have em in your hands try Hybriding em up and post the results ha!
