Traynor Dark Horse: want. Should I?

Re: Traynor Dark Horse: want. Should I?

Oooh good call, I'd forgotten about that... Dark Horse is gaining points... But I wish I could hear them. The Tweaker is reaping awards and good reviews...

Re: Traynor Dark Horse: want. Should I?

Dude I LOVE these amps. Wattage, clean, distortions... perfect amps for me. But 5 times the price. Then again I can afford it these days...

Re: Traynor Dark Horse: want. Should I?

Hotdiggitydamn you're right. That SuperSonic 22 sounds very, very nice... I tried it in store once and I rememeber loving it... The clean sounds are incredible though it's more of a loud amp than I'd like...

Re: Traynor Dark Horse: want. Should I?

Ordered the DarkHorse today AND it shipped today... :D Mouhahaha.

Doesn't mean I won't go for the SS22 though.

Re: Traynor Dark Horse: want. Should I?

We demand clips! :drill: In all seriousness, I'm glad one of us took the plunge.

Re: Traynor Dark Horse: want. Should I?

Saw one in store a couple of weeks ago.; Would have tried it out, except the owner wouldn't stop yapping at me long enough for me to try ANYTHING. Also, he wanted $850 for it, which is ridiculous.

Re: Traynor Dark Horse: want. Should I?

It's here!! I'm so excited :D :bling: I can't wait to get back home after work and try this baby out. I'll try it on top of my AOR30 with the Cannabis Rex (I can disconnect the speaker and plug it into the DarkHorse).

No clips as 1) I have no amplifier recording equipment 2) I'd never display my playing 'skills'...

350 euros!

Re: Traynor Dark Horse: want. Should I?

Disclaimer: I KNOW 15W is LOUD. I KNOW 2W is also ear-deafening. I know this all too well and so does everyone when they purchase a 2W/15W amp. But that thing is seriously loud. NOT louder than I imagined. In fact probably less so (which is good!). But it's still LOUD.

Oh, it feels solid and hefty and looks well built. The big switches have a little too much action to me but they're solid enough, the small switch is very solid and tight and the knob's feel is great. I've just ran it through a few tones. Hard to get bedroom distortion unless you stick to British tonestack mode, and of course like most amps at this level it's a tiny bit fizzy, nothing a quick twist of the tone knob on the guitar won't fix. Really nice sounding.

Decent enough build quality... The price shows. Lots of relief for the cables, decent enough quality components... nothing out of the ordinary but good enough.

Tubes are three different kinds: EH 12AU7, JJ 6V6s and Sovtek 12AX7s... weird stuff. I may or may not swap them around but I don't know much about valves and I've got no NOS nor do I plan to.
