my two cents:

CONSTRUCTION: well made, stylish vintage look. solid amp. my only dislike about the amp is hte rubber handle. the handle is attached by a bolt on each side and it just seems to me, after carrying the amp around a while, that it could possibly tear at either end and come crashing to the ground. unlikely, but i don't have 100% faith in the handle. other than that, it's really well made. it's certainly world-class quality.

SOUND: unbelievable sound. this amp really does sound like it should cost twice the money. it's so creamy and sweet. the clean channel is immaculate and the reverb is really good. at about 8 or 9, the reverb can get super heavy. the tone is so warm, smooth and creamy. no one can say anything bad about this amp tone - no one. it's really superb. the only thing is that it's so smooth, you can't do metal without a stomp box/effects processor. the distortion, at highest, sounds like a thick and warm overdrive. i'm completely impressed by the sound.

FEATURES: standard controls. there's a bright button that works very well. unlike many other amps i've tried, this bright feature really works well. it does make it brighter, but doesn't take anything away from the tone. with distortion, it can give it just a tad bit more crunch. it has an effects loop and a footswitch. it's features are pretty cut and dry, but very well designed and built.

OVERALL: i'm thoroughly delighted with this amp. the price makes it such a great deal that you can't pass it up. although it doesn't match my style of music (metal), i still want to get one just for the tone it gives. it can do metal with effects and stuff, but that would be defeating the purpose of this amp. it just gives super tone. i used it with EMGs, dimarzios, patb, jbjr. and custom custom. the emg and dimarzios, in my opinion, were super amazing on this amp to my suprise. the custom custom, of course, was extremely nice. i don't think you can get better tone for the money.

i've heard of people buying these and replacing the speakers or tubes, but that's crazy to me. it needs nothing at all. just a good guitar and pickups and you WILL get good tone.

hope this helps if you're looking for a good, affordable tube amp.

i've been looking at these to replace my Classic 30 oneday.... with my C30 set up i use a lot of pedals... i use a mix of Distortion boxes thru the amps clean channel, and the amps own OD as well...

I think a Traynor will be an upgrade for that rig...

Re: traynor tcv40wr review

well ive moved my 70lb YCV80 around by the same handlewith no problems...just the reverb tank springs bouncing around. so relax and check it for tears now and again when you clean her up :)

i agree,

it does a twinish clean that while not quite there in terms of perfection...it is solid and probably the best i've heard in a amp with such a nice overdrive section...the reverb is perfect though!

I find the expander button useless however...

The gain channel does a nice mild JCM800 impression and the boost function and scoop functions add in alot of versatile tones...

I set the gain at the point around 4-6/10 depending on the guitar and use the boost for more gain for heavier rock or to push a solo over the top. Almost like having a third channel sometimes with the right guitar...

Strats, Pauls, SGs, Ibanez's with floyds...this amp makes them all sound wonderful...
