trembucker for tune-o-matic

Re: trembucker for tune-o-matic

Nope. Trembuckers are made for the spacing on FLOATING bridges, like the Floyd Rose.

So go and order a normal set. Good luck!

Re: trembucker for tune-o-matic

Umm, I'm sure stock Gibson pickups are trem spaced. Regular spaced humbuckers are between 1-15/16" and 2" between the outside poles. Trem spaced pickups are just over 2-1/16" between the outside poles. A modern Gibson TOM saddle has a string spread of 2-1/16".

I can dig a little more and see if I can hunt down some more precise numbers on the pickup pole spacing.

edit: my pole spacing was centerline of pole to centerline of pole.

Re: trembucker for tune-o-matic

As far as I remember, Gibson has had different string spacing over the years. I'm not sure about what years were what. I have a 1994 LP Studio with a Custom 5 installed in the bridge. The pole pieces don't line up right under the outer E strings.

It is also the same case my Agile LP DC copy.

Re: trembucker for tune-o-matic

MikeS is correct. Gibson Tune-o-Matic spacing is 2 1/16" which would make a standard spaced pickup "off" like in my photo I use to illustrate this: The E and A strings are completely off to the side of their respective pole pieces. How anyone can this picture and still recommend standard spaced pickups for a Gibson is beyond me...

They should make this a sticky as I see this asked once a week it seems. And still there are people that say a standard spaced pickup will work but I have yet to see this illustrated.

EEEEEEEEEEEK! :wrf:  :smack:

Yngwylde is gonna be angry.

My apologies to everyone, I was almost sure Gibson trems were standard spaced. Now I won't be forgeting THAT picture you posted, Fusion1...

Sorry guys.

Re: trembucker for tune-o-matic

Well, everything i've read says the origins of trembuckers and F-spacing was supposedly because Fender and Floyd Rose bridges had wider string spaces than Gibson bridges at the time, so they made extra-wide pups for non-Gibsons...now Gibsons are too wide too? What happened?

Anyway all the pickup gurus have said time and time again that the string spacing is only a cosmetic issue, if you think your E's are too quiet it's probably in your head.

Re: trembucker for tune-o-matic

You can also raise the pole pieces on the Es a little higher than normal to help compensate. It can matter a little in the tone department, but it’s not a very big deal at all. He’ll be ok with regular spaced (I’m using a regular spaced pup in my LP and it works just fine).

Re: trembucker for tune-o-matic

the best thing to do is measue the distance between ur e strings. I used a trembuker on my fixed bridge I had measued the lenght on mine before bying pups. and found i neededa trembuker
