Trembucker vs humbucker....Is there a tonal difference?

So in a floyd equipped guitar I understand that it should have a trembucker. But will you actually notice a difference between a trembucker and a humbucker? From my understanding it is just width difference. Like F spaced on dimarzio pickups correct?

I am sure some will argue that you can due to the larger coils, I know I certainly can't.

Yes, Trembucker is just the Duncan equivalent to DiMarzio's "F-spacing".

99.5% identical in sound to a normal spaced version of the same pickup.

Longer bobbins = more wire to make the same number of coil windings, so theoretically, TBs will trend toward higher DC resistance. In reality, wind count easily overshadows DCR in determining the tone of a pickup, and the increase in DCR is nominal – probably within the margin of normal DCR variation for the equivalent HB model.

TL/DR: No difference worth noting.

Tone, no. DCR, yes. All of my hummies are now Trembuckers or F-Spaced.

The question was about tone. DCR does not directly affect tone. And the tiny difference in DCR won't make a noticeable difference in output either.

There may be a tonal/volume difference increasing toward the hi and lo Es' if you use the wrong spacing. But that is a fairly expensive test to run!

Even if they are exactly the same I tend to think tonal differences are going to be due to differences in both types of guitars they're installed in. You can't reasonably put a Trembucker in a Les Paul due to the spacing and vice-versa. Ex: A Les Paul style guitar with a tune-o-matic bridge, 24 &3/4 scale, typically mahogany body and possibly a set neck. Verses, a strat style guitar with some type of tremolo, (or hard tail plate) ash or alder body, bolt on neck, longer scale length, and other build, design and set up factors. But, maybe Seymour and crew have compensated for these differences also. Then there's the difference in where your picking hand rides due to the nature of the bridge designs. And then, variations on the pot value tolerances. So, even if the two pick ups might read the same in a bench test I don't see how they would ever sound exactly the same when mounted. But, if it sounds good then it's good. I have a my first super strat type design after playing mostly dual humbucker guitars for many years and I think it's really nice to have that familiar sounding humbucker in the bridge position.

i put trembuckers in almost everything, including gibsons

all trembuckers have copper tape around the coils and ive always wondered how much tonal effect there is if any but was advised not to peel it off. not sure if duncan would make me a non-tapped trembucker as a shop floor custom
