tremol-no problems

I have the Tremol-no large clamp installed on my OFR (with big brass block).
set up exactly as in the manual.(close attention to screw alignment)
whenever I lock the tremolo into "hardtail" mode, it still moves a little while making a clicking sound.
also, tuning is unstable in "floating" mode (but perfect without the tremol-no).

When floating, does it feel harder to move the trem bar than before you installed it? I found that it took a little tinkering to get the tremel-no to move perfectly smoothly . . . it is possible to set it up so that the shaft kinda pushes at an angle and adds friction to the whole system. This could be the source of your tuning problems in floating mode.

When you lock the trem in 'hardtail' mode, are you using the thumb screws, or the screws that you adjust with an allen key? The thumb ones can be tough to tighten enough by hand enough to actually lock the thing properly.

no friction. I took an hour to get it flawless...
are there screws other than thumbscrews? the kit only came with thumbscrews...anyway, I tighten the screws as tightly as I can

Mine had thumbscrews and little screws that you could turn with an allen head key. That was several years back though.


Hmmm. You sure that the pin is fully seated and the D-shaped metal part is flush against the top of your trem block, with the tiny screw locked in pretty hard? If that pin isn't properly seated it could slip/bend a bit which might account for the tuning issue. Other than that I would say it really sounds like there's some added friction in the system somewhere . . .

I got the D shaped thing tight but I know you are not supposed to over-tighten it

Do NOT forget to lube the shaft. That solved the tuning issues I initially had with them.

here is one thing I didn't do.
so I should just lube the metal shaft and then put the locking mechanism back on?

I remember lubing the shaft AND the hole the shaft goes into.

I used WD40, but I reckon any good metal lube would do.

I tried lubing the shaft and the hole (insert funk music here) but it didn't help one bit...

Can you post some pics of the install? Both in the cavity and from the top of the guitar around the bridge. Maybe we'll be able to see something that looks funny.

Try lubing the pivot points near the clamp. Lube it until it's very loose.
