Wait, that sounds lame. Let me put it this way: I've tried lots of tremolos: vintage Fender, Bigsby, Kahler, and Floyds. I haven't tried a Wilkinson, but of those, Floyds are my favorite.
I know I'm in the minority, but I've played a lot of different trems and the best IMO is definitely Kahler. Bigsby's have a classic look and are fine if you just want to add a little wiggle, but the range is real limited. Plus they are not know for staying in tune. Haven't yet tried the latest entrant "Stetsbar." Looks interesting, but kind of big and quite expensive. It's good if you want to add trem to a tune-o-matic bridge equipped guitar without drilling any holes.
Am I the only guy that gets along fine with a vintage trem?
Seriously, a Floyd is the way to go for any kind of aggressive trem playing....But that's not the style I predominantly play, for me a vintage trem with extra springs set tight to the body, for dives only is the way to go.
Seriously though, I can play comfortably with anything and can make pretty much any system stay in tune. that said, I preffer a Floating VS-100 with locking tuners. It sounds like a vintage trem, but has almost all of the range that a Floyd does. :burnout:
i have a strat with a Floyd 5 springs set flat with the body, its great. i like the more flexabilty in the Ibanez FR on my Jem but the fact that it takes 30 mins to tune it with new strings pisses me off, also the floyed is easier to controll to get specific notes, though the ibanez is more versatile. i chose floyd rose since the ibanez is a floyd anyway.
for me it's a well setup kahler flatmount. I think it's way more practical than a normal floyd since you don't have to cut anything and the locking nuts don't need a allen wrench to close them.
