Tremolo people, tell me everything you can : D

Re: Tremolo people, tell me everything you can : D

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I have a quick question about floating trems. I have a Wilkinson VS-100 in my Carvin set to full float and when I bend a string, the trem pulls up. Is there any way of stabilizing this? I really love the way the term plays and sounds in floating mode and it stays in tune like a rock (graphite nut & Sperzel tuning keys).

Cool. Thanks a bunch Zerb. Just one more question, will it work with a Wilkinson trem block, or will I have to modify it for a proper fit?

Will work with any trem that uses the classic "springs and inertia block" configuration, including Floyds, Kahlers, Wilkinsons.....

They have a great FAQ on-site, btw, this and other questions are cleared up there ;)

Re: Tremolo people, tell me everything you can : D

I have found through my own experience that the natural reverberation from a Strat's vintage style tremolo is what gives this generally thin and bright sounding instrument a certian amount of thickness, depth, punch, and cutting power, particulary for single note lines. The more strings you add to the tremolo cavity and the greater the tension of each string will result in even greater chime, depth and resonance; and that Callaham block will only further accentuate these characteristics.

I too, really prefer to have the strings reverbarate as well, however, many people hate it including most other people ive played with. Since I set up their guitars, they asked me to get rid of it, so I kow how to do it from their preference.

Re: Tremolo people, tell me everything you can : D

I was wondering, I like using a lot of different tunings. However, the trem tries to balance everything out so while I'm tuning one thing, the other that was in tune goes out of tune. It takes several times of going back and forth until the guitar gets perfectly in tune.

Is there a trick to getting around this?

Thanks for all of the responses by the way guys :)

You cannot do that to a floating trem...it will loose or increase tension on the springs, then you will have to use a tremsetter......and on a vintage style trem it will be quite stiff.

I figured. Thanks for the reply Rid! Looks like my Grosh will be my standard tuning (main) guitar and my Dean will be used for my alternate tunings.
