tremsetter ?s

I installed a hipshot tremsetter into my Ibanez rgt42 which has a full-floating trem. When installing it I followed the instructions provided and even watched the video for it online, but for some reason nothing it advertises works. It still goes out of tune when I raise and lower the trem, and it lowers in pitch when I bend a separate string. This makes no sense to me because nearly all the reviews I've read on this particular product have been exceptional. I guess my question is does the hipshot tremsetter suck balls, or do I because I'm just not doing it right?

Re: tremsetter ?s

It can be an utter nightmare to set up, let alone fit yourself. I've used 2 guitars that had 1, a Strat Plus with a standard 2-point trem, and a Heartfield with a Floyd. I couldn't get the Strat to work really well, but the Heartfield was superb. Absoutely no tuning issues at all. If you manage to get it set up right they're excellent, if not....:(

Re: tremsetter ?s

I hate the bump detent feel that the tremsetter causes in the middle of your settings. It makes the trem feel and sound like it has a speed bump. I would prefer just cranking down on the trem with 5 springs to lock it tight against the body and just using it in one position to having a huge speed bump in the middle of my trem movement. It feels and sounds terrible.

Re: tremsetter ?s

I like My Tremsetter....for the Little use my Floyd gets....It's worth having the tremsetter. no tuning Issues here..(and I did install it myself),,yes there is a slight "bump" in the middle...but it's managable

Re: tremsetter ?s

Thanks for the warning dude. I was gonna try one of those out, but maybe I'll forget about it.

Same thing happened to me with the EVH D-Tuna. Lots of people raved about it, but it was just utter crap for me. It didn't do any of the things as promised.

Re: tremsetter ?s

I never had a problem with the TS. Others can't make them work to save themselves. I dunno, maybe it's like computers..other folks can have horrid problems, I walk into the room, touch one key & it just works.

My TS keeps my wilkinson in tune, with locking tuners I get floyd stability for *reasonable* whammy use. I like the detent, and frankly think getting that right is what makes the tuning work. That and a wilkinson (forget fender bridges - too much stuff to wiggle) and a teflon nut...my frankenstrat still has an Amstd bridge & it sucks wind..finding a VS50 is not easy.

Re: tremsetter ?s

I had one professionally installed in my OLP with a Floyd, and it worked great! Open strings wouldn't detune while bending the hell out of the others, and it didn't go out of whack when I broke a string either.

Re: tremsetter ?s

That detent really makes giving a whole chord trem vibrato (something that sounds great IMHO when done right) a PITA. The speed bump really gets in the way. I tend to use the whammy when giving a whole chord vibrato. It depends on the chord though as some of them sound great when you bend the strings with your fingers too. I just can't bend ALL the strings at once in unison like the whammy does. It just sounds killer through a good thick amp.

Re: tremsetter ?s

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is a tremsetter? As some of you guys know I'm more of a Les Paul guy so tremelos are not my thing.

Re: tremsetter ?s

I think I'd opt for an ESP arming adjuster over the tremsetter. The temolno is a cool product but doesn't really help for keeping a trem in tune if it's full floating.

Re: tremsetter ?s

I have one that I have absolutely no use for. I couldn't get it to work to save my life. If someone here wants to try it out for free, just reply here and I will be happy to send it to you. It would probably be good to limit that to the continental US I suppose.

Re: tremsetter ?s

I had a tremsetter professionally installed, and my tuning stability was no better than when I started.

I have had good luck with the WD Trem Stabilizer, which is cheaper and easy to put in.

Here's an article on how to keep your tremolo in tune:

Ok.
But can you even dream of doing that with a floating trem? No way, José! :D

I had a TremSetter installed on an Ibanez RG-470. It was just fantastic!
Now I removed it because I installed an original Floyd Rose tremolo bridge... and it doesn't need the TremSetter (it won't go out of tune).

Re: tremsetter ?s

No takers on the free tremsetter?? I really would be happy to ship this thing out of my life tomorrow, all I need is a shipping address...did I mention it was free? It is just collecting dust here...

I do it with a Wilkinson VS100. Tuning is something of an issue because too much wankage does cause it to go out of tune. I need to work on my nut a bit more but the locking tuners are great at what they do. Just wish the nut was a bit better. I'm considering getting the LSR roller nut installed to eliminate this problem. My graphite nut just blows.
