tremspace question

Please don't crucify me for this one. I am going to order one of the brobuckers but am not sure if I need the normal spacing or tremspaced. I would rather have the zebra, but if it won't fit (work in a) into a Les Paul I will need the double cream.

Re: tremspace question

The tremspaced will actually line up better than the standard spaced pickup in a Les Paul. Go for the zebra!

Re: tremspace question

Either will work ok for a Les Paul. Newer gibbies have had bridge pickups a bit wider spaced than traditional LPs but the difference is so small it won't make a difference IMHO. With a Strat/floyd trem it might matter. You can check specs on the duncan site ("spcifications" link for each HB)

See the E and A strings not lining up with the pole pieces? That's a standard spaced pickup in a Les Paul. This doesn't bother some people, and the sound difference isn't very noticeable. I just can't stand it, and YES a tremspaced pickup in this guitar lines up perfectly under every string. That said why order a standard spaced pickup when a trem-spaced one will line up PERFECTLY?

This is not necessarily the case. Please measure how far apart your E strings are on center over the bridge pup.

Re: tremspace question

The Proper way to measure for Tremspaced or not

if the 2 e strings are under 2" apart at the height of the bridge pickup, standard spaced will work fine.

if the strings are 2" apart or more, go for a Trembucker

-------
Anything else is IMO BS or a crutch at best, because Tune-o-matics are usually slotted by hand and therfore can vary, just as there are Import and US V-trems w/different spacings, and most her simply hear "Trem" or "T-O-M" and jump to possibly false conclusions. but for ex. My Les Paul Gothic had more than 2 1/16" at the bridge (because I preferred that spread on that axe and slotted the saddles accordingly) , and I´ve seen hundreds if not thousands of Import Strats w/ a trem and under 2"....

Either way, we REALLY need a sticky on this Info... seen lots of pseudo-ways these last weeks where I know for a fact that alone in my collection the success chances are 50:50 at best ;)

Re: tremspace question

Am I safe to assume the long and short of it is, either will work? The spacing will be hardly noticable at all.

Yes, either will work. Trembuckers can be a tight fit in some pickup rings but other than that you will be fine either way.

Every trembucker I´ve ever ordered came with it´s own ring....:eek13:

Re: tremspace question

And every trembucker ring fits existing mounting holes without modification. The only caveat is if you buy a used Trembucker and then try to fit it in your average humbucker ring. Some sandpaper and 5 minutes of your time will solve that though.

They do but they are always black. Sometime the original ring is desirable for cosmetics and can work too but sometimes needs a little persuasion
