Trhee Pickup Guitar Recommendations

Now that I know I can find colors online without going CS.

I'm building a 3 pickup Explorer type guitar, I have 2 questions. I'm looking for a metal sound, old Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Testament. I also like some hairband sounds, I always thought Ratt had a great guitar sound.

What would you recommend for the 3 pickups, Neck, Middle and Bridge?

Also does the middle pickup need to be F-Spaced as well? I thought the neck doesn't but the bridge does.

Re: Trhee Pickup Guitar Recommendations

I would measure the string spacing in the middle position with an accurate ruler, and compare with this explanation. As far as pickups, a JB/Jazz in the bridge/neck (or an Antiquity JB ) would be great a start. As far as a middle pickup, you can use a 59, but it depends on what you want from a middle pickup.

Re: Trhee Pickup Guitar Recommendations

For all metal, you could go Full Shred neck, Demon middle, JB bridge.

JB/59N/59N
-or-
JB/Jazz B/59N

I have a Les Paul with a Custom and two T-Tops. The Custom may turn into a UOA5 Custom or a UOA5 59/Custom Hybrid in the future. The T-Tops will stay. I like the idea of a Demon in the middle, but my experience is with lower output in the middle, and it works exceptionally well (as it does with Strats!). I also like the Full Shred Neck and really love the Screamin Demon/FSn in an HH setup for my own purposes, but have to recommend the 59N based on the original post, though a Pearly Gates Neck or a Sentient could also be a disgustingly sick option, depending on what you're after.

That said, the switching wasn't specified, so I'm assuming the configuration of an HHH Les Paul:
Bridge
Bridge/Middle
Neck
