Ive come closer than ever (for me) to getting the BackinBlack tone by turning down the guitar volume pot to 7. (This will make it more clicky like an acoustic,) THEN you compensate by goosing up more treble and gain on the amp, maybe some mid, but back off the bass so it doesnt boomy up the pick attack.
the trick is not letting the gain get hairy or squashy-chewy. And if you got a tube amp, crank the power tubes with the master volume to at least 6-8 before turning up the preamp volume. Doesnt always work but thats where the magic is. Good luck.
{In my case, Im using an Epiphone w stock pots, P.A.F. type Ant bridge thru the Overdrive (dirty) channel a 5w Blackstar head&cab, no pedals, gauge .009-.042.}
* Let me know what you think if you try this.*
(And by the way, chasing celebrity tones is for retarded losers, we should all express our individuality, and its all in the hands anyways, yadayadayada blahblahblah, so go write the next Bohemian Rhapsody on a banjo, and get plenty of cliches in your diet.)
