Tried 2 Windsors, one bad on good.

So I got a chance to play the Windsor, the 1st sounded so bad, I had to find a different local with one in stock. The 1st one was a GC, the amp had intermittant oscillation issues, was weird on the eq and gain ( Another person on a different forum had a similiar experience). It was pretty dreadful... The stock cab sounded horrible too, very nasally and thin.

I then went to a music go round that had one, plugged into a VTM cab and the amp sounded fantastic. I had a Tele, and at low gain settings it had wonderful sustain and snarl. Esp when you rolled the class a knob back. As I pushed it a bit more, the amp had guts and warmth, love the resonance and class a a/b knob, which dramatically ups the tonal versatility. It is a bit buzzy at higher gain settings, but with the master hi and the pre set low, it sounds great. I have not found an Epi So Cal to compare yet, but this is a very solid deal for 399.00 and even less used. I am sure I will snatch up a scruffy one at some point. I like it much better than the Penta head.

Something good is going on with Peavey lately. The same goes for Epiphone, BTW.

Sounds good Kevlar. I am a little concerned about the quality of the amp, because of the price, but that is something we will figure out in time.

That's kind of the impression I had of it. It's a pretty decent tube amp, but it didn't totally blow me away, where I felt compelled to urge everyone to go buy one. Since I'm sure the circuit board is just passable quality, we'll see how they hold up over time. Even still, for that price, they're worth the money.
If I was a teenager, looking to buy something I can afford to jam with a rock band, I'd definitely be looking at the Windsor. Too bad it's not a two channel amp.

I would say that you gotta get your hands on one as I did try one with an issue. Likely something simple..... In all the PV amps I have owned, I have never had one breakdown on me, so hopefully the same will be true of the imports. I like my VTM better, but I have messed with it a bit. In stock form the Windsor sounds better than the Butcher and the VTM, (I am gonna post round III of clips in the next few days, did a couple new things to it and it sounds great) which are similiar amps.
