wasn't too bad at all! (I'm only talking about the gainy side). started on the 5W setting and sounded very nice. had to dial UP to mids though and dial BACK the bass. had plenty of gain on tap (overall, it sounded a bit more compressed and gainy than what I consider to be slash's tone). there seemed to be a sweet spot on the preamp gain b/w noon and 2-3 o'clock. up too much was a bit muddled, down too low seemed kinda useless to me. the presence goes way up into icepick territory, which his signature head kinda had going on as I recall.
I started to leave then noticed it had a 1W setting. turned it back on and it just seemed more saturated and bassy - had to fiddle with the knobs to get it back to how it sounded nice like with 5 watts, but at that point I'm not sure how that lower setting would come in handy.
at $699, too rich for my blood for what it is, but nice sound out of a small package.
