Triple coil pickup..?

Re: Triple coil pickup..?

That system was seen in Ibanez IC210 guitars and, they even had a "movable" triple-coil pickup.

I saw that the ATK bass pickup was a tri-blade - and there's a Fender at my local music store with another tri-blade design - I don't recall an IC210 though...

Just checking it out - interesting...

I know about it, because I had to do a project for a "customer".

Re: Triple coil pickup..?

I've just seen this, quite old picture - http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/pi...-tech/163536-lundgren-m8-triple-coil-wtf.html - and wondered if you guys have built any such oddities or one-offs for purely scientific purposes..?

Any crazy ideas from anybody on this one..?

A Strat SC sandwiched in between two 'bucker coils sounds intriguing; the question would be whether the two halves of the humbucker would work as well and still sound like a humbucker when you put that much space between them (probably not). A neck-bridge set of these with a middle pickup would also start looking a little Spinal Tap-ish:

Re: Triple coil pickup..?

That's cool. Triple coil Invader seems like a plan...

I'd suggest going with the Duncan Designed Detonators first. Much cheaper, and very similar, making it suitable for testing.

Have you considered just wiring two normal humbuckers (in close proximity) in series? It'd essentially be a 4-coil humbucker.

Re: Triple coil pickup..?

the Secret Recipe of the Hamer triple coil in the 90s guitars is: a JB, and I'm not positive but I believe it's a SSL-6 mounted on a special plate, all mounted in a over-sized ring.
early 1980s Hamer triple coil are Dimarzio wound "Hamer" stamped Hot PAF (maybe 11k) and special single coil.

I have definitely found "My Guitar" in those 90s Hamer Phantoms :approve:
I would like to try one of the 80s ones with the Dimarzio pups though, out of curiosity.
also: wonder about that long lost "motherbucker"? I saw one on ebay once... thing looks like a monster piece of junk, I should have jumped at it.

Re: Triple coil pickup..?

Ibanez Duo coils
have a humbucker with a second single coil underneath one side
so that when it splits
it splits to a stacked coil

six wire oddity

If you mean the Kent Armstrong model there are still some out there.

The Kramer QuadRails is mighty. I do like that pickup (hint hint Mr. Duncan, sir)

I suppose the Custom Shop can help me out on that one...?
