what differences so much one from another (because, while one is about 2ks the other one goes up to 3k) beeing both 3 channel beasts, and having loads of choices... does sound the herbert so much better than the recto to worth the money?

what do you think?

thanks in advance for the replies

Re: Triple Recto vs Diezel Herbert

It all comes down to how much you're willing to spend, and most guitarists don't have $3500+ sitting around for an amp head.....BUT....yes....the Herbert is the most crushing killing machine I've ever heard on a 4-12 cab.
If a Bogner XTC is the ultimate channel switching Marshall, then the Herbert is the ultimate Triple Recto.

I tried out a Herbert for about an hour one day, using a LP, Strat, and Charvel EVH. The monsterous gain that comes out of it is almost scary. Massive headroom on all channels, and the amp is built like a spaceship. It's not really vintage or organic sounding like a Bogner. It's modern, tight, and just screams metal. The clean channel is nice and glassy, the midgain is pretty versatile and can be used as your heavy channel as well. The hottest channel is pure mayhem. It could disembowel an animal at 100 meters. LOL

The Triple Rec is no slouch either, and much more reasonably priced. If I had the money, and wanted that sound, I'd figure out a way to get the Herbert, but the price is just obscene. It all depends on what your income level is.
For metal, Diezel is the end of the road.

I just love your colorful descriptions. That made me LOL. :laugh2:

Richie Sambora is using a couple Diezels on the current tour. When the wife and I saw them his tone was nothing short of amazing. It gave me G.A.S. for one until I found out much one cost. :laugh2: :laugh2:

Re: Triple Recto vs Diezel Herbert

The Herbert is the ultar hi-tech amp!It has it's own crunch ,and even the crunch channel with gain on 5 is deadly!the hi-gain channel is a weapon!
You can combine different power tubes and try new sounds out!And MIDI is great for gigs if you need many different settings and sounds.
The cleans are nice and has lots of headroom ,but who buys a Herbert for the clean channel?
The recto is far more loose than the herbert. And the saturation has total different character!
But i wouldn't buy both.I would check the Cornford MK50.It has the same qualities with less price and a killer tone!(except the midi)

well, first of all, the herbert cost here about 2900€, which is a f... lot, but the triple recto is over 2300€ rigth now with the shipping and customs... so theres is not so much diference in prices... that being said xDDDD i´ll save that sentence (disembowel an animal at 100 m xDD)

its not about my income, because no one can buy that beast at first stage, but a bank credit, is another story... it all depends of which one should i buy

btw great link gearjoneser...

for the other replies... there is also a bogner, the uberschall, along with the cornford... but the bogner here goes up to 3500€ and i can even buy a cornford...both are 2 channel amps, and although i have heard the bogner in action, i think 3500€ is far too much for an amp...

thanks for the replies dudes...

Guess what? The Herbert is 150€ more than the Triple Recto over here...
2750 vs 3000...

Re: Triple Recto vs Diezel Herbert

For how much do Cornford amps go? For example a nice amp head and a nice combo?

Well the cornford is working like a 4 channel Amp with the food switch!2Master volumes and axtra overdrive switch is perfect to use the crunch channel as rythm and lead channel.
It has the smoothest ,and nicest lead tone ,and the rythm tone is unholy! And it's point to point hand wired wich gives you easier maintenance if you ever broke something!Okay it's just 50 watts (you can order a 10 watt version ,Paul will do it) but you can crank it and get the best tone i ever heard.!Really great amp!

Re: Triple Recto vs Diezel Herbert

my friend is recording with his band in vancouver now, hes been laying down tracks with his diezel layerd over his road king:reporter:

Re: Triple Recto vs Diezel Herbert

get the diezel, mesa quality is lame

Joking, right? Mesa's are ****ing tanks! I've had one roll off the cabinet, tubes pop out, and sound great that same night.

Honestly, Diezels sound awesome for leads, but the rhythm tone is nothing that an Überschall or a nice blend of other amps (5150 + Recto/XXX, etc) wouldn't do better, IMO. Overpriced and overhyped.

not joking, my bud's road king AND triple rectifier AND dual rec either overheated and popped tubes, blew fuses constantly, or just dies for no seeable reason. hey might be built well, but the electronics are crap, why is ther no fan or cooling for an oven like the road king? that many tubes is just way too much. :yell:

Mesa has had a run or two of some issues with their quality control.

While I generally agree with your sentiment and if I were looking to buy one wouldn't be all that concerned about it, it has been an issue in the past. I do know a few years ago that a bass player buddy of mine was shopping around and found the Mesa quality to be dubious both off the showroom floor as well as with amps that had been purchased recently.

I did witness a Mesa die about 10 years ago. To its credit the head was dropped to a concrete floor from about chest level. I don't think ANY tube amp would of survived that fall.

Re: Triple Recto vs Diezel Herbert

This is true, the RK has had major road-worthy issues, and there are always the odd-****ups here and there, but all companies have that.

Re: Triple Recto vs Diezel Herbert

if youre going to save up for a recto, you might as well go and get a diezel for a little more....I hate how rectos sound. Hetfield's tone on the St.Anger DVD..I know thats not the best place... but that thing is just evil.

engl is also a terrific choice

I don't think that's a good example of what that amp can do.

I'd say Adam Jones' tone is a better example of how good a Mesa Triple Rectifier can sound rather than James Hetfield's tone.
