Triple Shot Diagrams??????

I'm a little confused here. Isn't one of the purposes of the t-shot rings to let you do series/parallel wiring without having any push/pushes or push/pulls? I was wondering whats up with these 2 diagrams:

Whats the difference (besides having what I believe 2 be an unnecessary series/parallel switch)?

That's if you want to put one pickup in series with the other. You could have the neck screw coil in series with the bridge slug coil or whatever. Totally different sound.
