Triple Shot on Strat

I have a Strat Squier and I want to put a Railhammer Hypervintage neck pickup in the middle position. I would also like to use a Triple Shot with it. Will the Triple Shot have enough room to clear the strings?
I'm also going to put a Twang Banger at the bridge and a Lollar P-90 at the neck. I will have one volume and tone for the Railhammer and P-90 and one volume and tone for the Twang banger. It should be interesting.

Re: Triple Shot on Strat

First off, I'm not a strat player but ive worked on them. My guess is that it won't fit unless the strings are really high which will throw off your action and intonation. What I would suggest is either a separate mini toggle (won't give you all the options) or -what I would do- buy the triple shot, remove the switch and harness and rout a hole the same size in the pick guard and mount it that way. It's a slot and two screws, shouldn't be too difficult.

I would remove the switch (wiring harness attached) by taking out the two screws. Then lay the empty ring on the pick guard around the current humbucker hole and use it as a template to mark what hole needs to be routed. Use a dremel or similar rotary cutting tool to make the main hole and a drill bit for the screw holes. Probably take an hour or less and it will absolutely fit, no problem.

May have to rout a small amount of wood from the body where the switch will set as well, but it will be under the pickguard.

Welcome to the forum.

To fit a Triple Shot humbucker surround for a middle position pickup on a typical Squier Affinity series Stratocaster, you will need to use a version intended for the neck position of a flat-fronted guitar. You will probably also need to add wooden inserts in the pickup cavity to accept the four fastening screws at the corners of the Triple Shot.

Obviously, employing four very long screws that pass through the mounting surround and bite into the existing body wood is possible BUT the combination of routs for the pickups and the vibrato springs means that there is not much wood for the thread of such screws to bite.

Re: Triple Shot on Strat

Hi,

It will probably work. I've never used it in the middle of a strat, but I do have a Triple Shot on the bridge of a mexican strat. I have a moderately high action however, so if your strings are low, it may cause more a conflict. I also have neck and bridge Triple Shots on a Squier Super-sonic with no clearance issues. I have the strings pretty low on that one. You definitely need the "Flat" model of the TS, not the curved model and you should be fine. Typically the TS is lower or about even with the pickup itself, so I don't see any clearance issues. As for mounting, I don't use the four corner screws. I just use long springs or longer surgical tubing to keep TS tight to the pickguard. I've never had any issues with movement, vibrating, buzzing etc. (its pretty solid connection). Hope that helps.
