Triple Shot Rings

Newish to the forum, so please forgive me if this is the wrong place.

I have a JB in a guitar with a triple shot ring (which I highly recommend. The different tones are MAGNIFICENT.) anyways, the only problem I have is that I have a very heavy right hand technique, and so I often bump switches mid song, messing up the sound I want. I considered turning the ring to put the switches on the other side, but that would make switching one single coil on confusing (I am not a bright man). I would just switch the two hot leads for the single coils, but I am pretty sure that would just put it out of phase. Any suggestions out there?

Also, general triple shot thread.

Re: Triple Shot Rings

If you bump it, I would flip it.. Then play the heck out of the guitar flipping the switches and remembering which tones you like.. You must really dig in though, It's hard for me at times to flip the switches at all.. lol

Re: Triple Shot Rings

Just put a small piece of electrical tape over the switch. Or train yourself not to hit the switches.

Re: Triple Shot Rings

Matter of technique , you have to learn how to play it without hitting the switch. If you spin the pup you change the sound of the pickup too.

Re: Triple Shot Rings

Now that's something that I, as a lover of Triple Shots, know nothing about. Please elaborate.

Ok so the directions that come with the triple shot show you two ways to wire them up with a duncan pickup. I forget which is which, but the standard wiring works in either the neck or bridge. So when you want to turn on say the screw coil the two switches are pushed towards that coil, if you want the slug coil the two switches are pushed towards the slug side. Well if you flip the pickup to use in the other position (neck or bridge). These switches would now face away from the desired coil. So duncan includes an alternate wireing so that the switches always are pushed towards the coil you want. So if you flip the ring, use the other wiring!

Re: Triple Shot Rings

I think you would want to flip the ring, but not the pickup, then use the alternate wiring so that pushing toward a coil still works. If you rotate the pickup and change the wiring, I think it's going to work backwards of what you're expecting.

The only wiring directions with it said to white wire to white hub, black to black hub, etc. the red and green wires for neck and bridge correspond to either slug or screw coil, so wiring is universal I think.

Also, I don't think the rings even come with instruction- just a ring in a bag.

Re: Triple Shot Rings

The switches pointing toward the active coil IS the alternate wiring.

Man, I can't imagine how you play...I've been using Triple Shots ever since they came out and I have NEVER been able to flip the switches by my picking. I would highly recommend cleaning up your style.

No.

They don't come in a bag, they come in a bubble card with wiring directions on the back of the card.

Read the instructions again. It lists an alternate/"reverse" wiring scheme.

Re: Triple Shot Rings

Just in case someone has misplaced the instructions, they are online.

Reversing the colored wires from the pickups to the ring is done only to flip the switch direction (in case you want to flip the ring and have the switches work the same from the other side of the pickup.) Reversing the white/black wires is only if you need to flip the phase of one of the pickups.

Well, mine came in a bag without instructions. Got them from musicians friend I think.

It must have been a return or a "B" stock. I have purchased a dozen of them from Musicians Friend and they all came in the bubble-pack with the instructions (as posted by beaubrummels) on the back of the card.

If you paid the "new" price, you got ripped off.

I don't go to mf often enough to know this, but if something is b stock or returned (I am pretty sure that it was unused, either that or someone is really good at picking up solder) do they mark it in some way? Is the packaging different?

Also, I switched to two wires. You guys were right.
