TRIVIA QUESTION! - Whose guitar or bass has had or is the longest running signature model? I will reveal the answer tonight at 8:00pm central time. Good luck on your knowledge! :wizard:

Re: TRIVIA QUESTION!!

The question does not stipulate electric or acoustic, nor official signature versus "nickname". I nominate the Macaferri Django Reinhardt and/or Gibson "Charlie Christian".

Re: TRIVIA QUESTION!!

The Ibanez JEM, for Steve Vai. I don't think the LP is really considered a signature model. And IIRC the JEM is the longest running 'official' signature guitar. It just celebrated its 25th anniversary this year.

Re: TRIVIA QUESTION!!

Doc Watson or some other Bluegrass/old time Country music artist would be my guess.

I get the impression that the OP is talking about a scenario in which an artist specifically collaborated with a maker to create an instrument. To that end, Django and Charlie used regular Macaferri and Gibson respectively, but as that is all they used, combined with their pioneer status as musicians, has led to their entrenched association with the particular instruments.

As for the Ibanez Jem, it turns 27 this year.

Re: TRIVIA QUESTION!!

JEM is only 25 years. Jackson Rhoads is over 30.

I don't think of the Rhoads as a signature model though. It's sort of the same thing as the Les Paul. Yes, it started off as a signature guitar for Randy, but it's now so much more than his signature guitar. There were artists who had a signature Rhoads. The Les Paul and the Rhoads are not signature models anymore.

At least that's what I believe.
