Truetone Rockstar

My dad's cousin brought me a guitar, that I didn't even know he had. He bought it when he was in his teens and it hasn't been touched in possibly 30 years or so. He wants me to go thru it and fix whatever I can... not wanting to put much into ofcourse...

So here's the thing... I've never heard of them.. only thing i know is it says made in Japan. And it apparently was available thru Western Auto. If you guys can help me out, any input would be appreciated.

I'm guessing it's most likely a rebranded Teisco, looking at the pickup, bridge and other elements.

Took it apart, to start cleaning the 30 years of funk... here's what's under the hood.



Appears to be a plywood body.

It needs new pots, a new jack, new tuners, the neck has a slight bow, the action is as low as I can get it and still way to high, and the body itself is in horrible condition but..... the single coil is actually pretty b*tchin.

Shim the neck pocket up.

i had a guitar that looked just like that i purchased for peanuts. I held onto it for awhile then sold it on ebay for $300 :laugh: part of wishes i kept it and turned into something new but old.

What's good to shim it with? I kinda dig it... I may see if I can buy it off him, after I get it playable

Well 3 of the 4 screws won't budge. didn't want to try a lot of pressure.. moved on to the forth and it turned the first time rather easy. to my surprise, and the lack of other 3 budging at all, it came right out... half of it anyway. apparently it had snapped at some point.... yay.
