I am looking for some song suggestions for him to play some rhythm stuff that I can solo over. At one point some years ago, he was a very very gifted player. He is still a very good musician but has not picked up the guitar in 10 years or more. Same age as me... grew up playing 70's and 80's rock. He just purchased a guitar and for the first time in years is talking about playing. He had all his gear (except his SG) stolen years ago.

Some rhythm riffs that he will remember and will be easy to re-learn would be great. I was thinking of a few Bad Company songs... maybe some Foreigner or Cars or Aerosmith or ZZ Top or Van Halen or Zeppelin or Kiss or Nugent? Thoughts?

With all that time off, he should be pretty fresh!

If I remember it right, the Ted Nugent "Ted Nugent" had some very cool songs on it. I still like listening to that one once in a while. The first 4 or 5 ZZtop albums were great too!

IMO, just ask him to pick up the guitar and start playing along with discs he likes. Nice small amp setup (and a digital tuner), a new guitar with the same set of strings he used to use, and go for it!

A friend of mine started playing again after his marrage fell apart, and he hadn't played in about 25 years. He's doing great!

Other thoughts? I listen to a few older Thin Lizzy songs that may be in the ballpark. Any of you that have done the "priming the pump" thing... let me in on your experience.

Thanks again.
