Trying my hand at some mag swapping tonight

it seems simple enough. Just received an A2, A2 rough, A4 and A4 rough.

Gonna toss the regular A2 in a JB, one of my maybe top 2 pickups is the RTM. Just love that thing.

Gonna toss a A4 roughcast into a PATB1, see if maybe I can tame some of the spikey top end.

We'll see how far I get, maybe I will post some sound clips or videos.

Any advice for a first time mag swapper?

The PATB1 is killer with the A4 roughcast, smoothed out the nasty top end very nicely. Sort of evened the whole eq curve out which is what I was looking for.

JB with the regular A2 sounds pretty damn good and pretty close to the RTM. Need more time to play with it.

Had a Screamin Demon laying around and threw an A2 roughcast in it. Super cool sound, again smoothed out the super harsh top end. Fattened it up and evened it out. This one is a lot of fun to play. It isn't the hottest pickup ever but its super articulate and it definitely screams.

To add: No need to unscrew completely the 4 bobbin screws going into the baseplate, just enough to be able to lift the bobbins off the baseplate with a flathead screwdriver so that the magnet can be removed easily. If you feel like you can't push the magnet out safely, blow some hot air with the hair dryer to warm up the wax, just enough to get the mag moving. Have fun 😊

I think I got them in backwards because in position 2 with the bridge and middle pickup it sounds super thin and out of phase. Just fyi the magnets from Philadelphia Luthier mark the opposite ends of their mags as Seymour Duncan, it would seem anyways. Still not 100% on figuring out the orientation of the magnet poles in the pickup.

You should get a compass to help with that.
