Trying to get a Gn'R sound....any tips!!!

Hello,

I have Slash sig. Alnico II pickups in my guitar, does anyone know what combination Amp & Distrortion pedal would get me close to the Slash sound? Im on a limited budget and cannot afford Slashs signature cabinet and head...im looking for around a 50W amp that will sound good. Plus, does anyone know what type of distortion the Slash sig. cry baby gives and would it be worth buying?

Just about any Marshall tube amp from the will get you in the ballpark. If you have to , boost the front end a bit and maybe an eq

Re: Trying to get a Gn'R sound....any tips!!!

As JMH said, any valve Marshall with the gain NOT on full and NOT with a scooped EQ setting will get you in the ballpark if you have the right guitar.

As for the Slash wah, a guy I was in a band briefly with had 1. The wah side sounded good, the distortion sounded absolutely awful imo. Verry fuzzy and muddy sounding.

Here is my comment:

What guitar?

#1 A2P's are better than the Slash sig pups. What do you think Slash ACTUALLY used to get his sound?
#2 For a budget - Marshall AVT2000 50 watt
#3 Basic Crybaby wah.

Then, play with the knobs.

If you can't do it with that, you can't do it with Slash's actual rig.

Well Slash's tome has been attempted by many that have failed. You can get close with a modified JCM 800 with 6550 tubes and a Silver Jubilee a custom hand made Les Paul, an mxr ten band, DBX compressor, and a cry baby wah. Then find Slash and have him play it. Ohh, and you are probably going to need a tele as well.

IMO, the distortion on the Slash wah isn't supposed to be used on its own as a distortion, it's only supposed to be used with the wah. A distortion before a wah gives a wicked effect that Slash has been using lately, which is what the Slash wah does.

Ah, I have no idea tbh with you!

I've only seen 1 once and it was in the aforementioned setting. I didn't play it myself, so can't speak about it other than that :)

Dude, you must really want his tone. Isn't this like the third thread in 3 different rooms you posted something similar to this?

Re: Trying to get a Gn'R sound....any tips!!!

you can buy the new Marshall AFD100 Slash Signature head. or you can buy the Marshall Vintage Modern. Or just get a JCM900 MkIII or even a DSL and spin the knobs till it sounds good. also a tube screamer for solos will help.

Les Paul
a2pro pickups
Marshall amp(Jubilee or modded jcm 800 is what he used in the studio, but any tube marshall will do)
Practice

....done

Didn't you start like 3-4 threads on the A2P's and your SG, I think he took lessons, you can't fault him for that.:laugh2:

Re: Trying to get a Gn'R sound....any tips!!!

same responses from the same people here as in the amp room.
Les paul and a tube marshall and lots of practice.

Trying to get a Gn'R sound....any tips!!!

The tone is in the top hat!

Others have already posted the gear that will get you in the ball park of that sound. The true tone is in Slash's fingers. Practice until you can get close.

Re: Trying to get a Gn'R sound....any tips!!!

It's all in the fingers.

For guys who obsess about pickups and such, we're oddly fond of saying that.

Here's another saying:

You can't get blood from a turnip.

But once you have gear that's somewhat close, yeah, it's time to practice.
