trying to get rolling, stuck in the garage

ginormous

Anyone with experience on IK software plugins? SampleTank FREE (their capital letters, not mine) is crashing my DAW (Reaper x64).

Win 7, 64-bit, but Reaper runs its' own 32-bit plugins without a problem.

Re: trying to get rolling, stuck in the garage

Did you get the 64-bit version of the plugin? Silly question, but...

I've used Amplitube free (older version) but nothing else from them. IIRC it does crash the first time it's loaded (32-bit XP) but then runs fine.

Does it give a crash report? Might need to check the IK forums.

Re: trying to get rolling, stuck in the garage

No, there's no 64-bit version.

However, the native Reaper plugins are all 32-bit, and they run fine. The 64-bit is for program execution.

I'll see if there's a crash report, but basically, it keeps spitting up error messages saying "registry error, check to see if program is installed correctly" and various "missing program" messages for QuickTime 4. The Current version is 7.x, which I already have.

Re: trying to get rolling, stuck in the garage

Hmmm. Wondering if maybe the plugin is checking the Registry as part of its own authentication process, but User Account Control is preventing it?

And if they changed filenames and locations between QT4 and QT7, that could be the source of that particular problem.

That's gotta be my biggest gripe with software - too much co-dependency on other programs that do not adhere to a file location or format standard.

Re: trying to get rolling, stuck in the garage

I've disabled UAC, so I don't think that's the issue.

When QuickTime sets up in a Win registry, it basically stays there.

Like most commercial programs, even when the program is uninstalled, registry entries stick around like a jilted lover waiting for the heart breaker to return.

Re: trying to get rolling, stuck in the garage

Yeah. Adobe, Norton, and Apple have the absolute worst hangers-on in that respect. Can't uninstall Norton, you can only reformat. I've diabled the automatic startup of all iTunes and other Apple-specific software in my XP system, but with each reboot, they return automatically, even though the settings are still disabled.

All I can suggest is that QT7 changed something from QT4 that the plugin wants, and the only way to make it happy is to find out what it's looking for.

Re: trying to get rolling, stuck in the garage

try installing the 32 bit version of reaper and see if it works there.
I have had to do that in the past with some plugins.

Re: trying to get rolling, stuck in the garage

OK, uninstalled 64-bit, installed 32-bit. Also corrected a slight error: Reaper was looking for the VST plugins in a non-existent folder. Created the folder in Windows, and moved the plugins to their new home.

I boot up Reaper, SampleTank and AmpliTube show up in the proper place, and all the stars are in alignment.

Now to pitch-correct and edit the 3 takes of this rookie singer (daughter of friend of wifey's friend) into something audible. Nothing worth posting, just a few passes of a karaoke version of "Endless Love". I'm still learning the program.

As soon as I wrestle this bad boy into submission, I'll put up some of my own stuff.
