It's a pain in the a$$ and really not necessary on the TS line because of the FET buffering circuit used in those pedals...It can be done, but as I say,not really needed...Tone sucking isn't a complaint with Tube Screamers, but the midrange spike normally is..

Agreed. Leave the bypass circuitry alone. It's a nice buffer anyway to keep your signal string through the rest of your pedals and to the amp over long cable runs.

Amen.....And that'll keep you from having to send me your now non-working TS9! LOL......

I get this once in awhile.A guy will do some mods on his pedal and then it won't work and I'll spend some time getting it fixed back up again....

I Love doing the mods,but I hate fixing a broken pedal...

I say leave your TS9 alone! Trust me on this!

Re: TS-9 tru-bypass mod

LOL, that's funny, John, but I hear ya. I've fixed my own breaks enough....LOL.

One tip I will pass on to modders, take your time. Change one part, test the pedal, change the next one, test the pedal, change the next one, test the pedal. You get the idea. This saves a lot of grief and wasted time trying to find out where it all went wrong.

Oh gosh I've screwed up my own share of pedals also buddy! It really sucks when you overheat the circuit board and burn away the tracings! LOL....

Great advice, but sometimes it's better to let someone that knows what they're doing,to do the work....

Of course a guy can't learn unless he learns by his mistakes!

Some great advice and alot of us have learned to do things the way you mention Erik.

These days I use a solder sucker, remove all the parts I'll replace and then carefully replace to the new components....I get maybe 1 pedal in 10 these days with a problem and it takes me a few minutes to figure out where I screwed up..But this comes from doing "alot" of pedals...

All the mods I do to a TS9 or say the Boss DS1 take me only about an hour or so....Then I spend about another 1/2 wanking through it before shipping it back out to a guy...

How about a totally bypass on that thing???;)

I'm with you on that Rid, but to be honest, John's mods on a TS-9 are damn good. I kinda wish I hadn't sold mine.

Ooooooooohhhhhh that's cold RID! :sword: :nana:

:laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

Cold, yes. But man, I'm with him there. My only use for a TS anything is a doorstop. I'm as SD-1/MXR-44 man. Though those and the TS pedals share virtually the same circuit design, the sound totally different.

i'd be more of a fan of the sd-1 if the volume boost on them wasn't... almost non existant

TS's slam the bejesus outta the preamp

Re: TS-9 tru-bypass mod

I could understand someones arguement for true-bypass, althought to me Pete Cornish's article is cystal clear. But what is the point of true bypassing and overdrive or a distortion pedal? that I never understood.

Re: TS-9 tru-bypass mod

well thats me told, lol. no need to bypass it then i guess. im still gonna drop in the other mods im planned to though. thanks guys

Install a chip holder into the pedal and get a better opamp in there, change out the 2 resistors in the output section to 10k and 100k and increase the .02 input cap to a .047 or .056 as a start...There are lots of other mods and ideas from that point.
