I know theres a difference and dont mean to bring this up yet again, but is someone can just point out the major differences, between these. Is the ts 808 really worth getting? or does the ts9 suit metal more for a boost. What does the ts9dx offer over the ts9?

thanks alot!

Keep in mind that i will be using this to boost my cranked up gain lead channel.

Re: ts9, ts9dx, ts808

For just boost I'd stick with a TS-9. The TS-9dx has extra gain that you wouldn't need for boost. The 808 RI is just a over priced TS-9 IMO.

Re: ts9, ts9dx, ts808

No personal experience, but I've heard that the DX really didn't add anything good to the circuit, and weakened the original circuit (tone-wise).

Get a TS9 and have Stratdeluxer modify it.

Re: ts9, ts9dx, ts808

Being an old guy, I remember the TS808's being cool in their day. Collectors are paying huge money for originals, so kind of like Les Pauls or other gear, the RI 808s have some appeal to an older sound, and a nostolgic bunch of geezers like me ( I have a RI ). Having said that, for the truly massive gain and boost folks are seeking today, maybe another pedal all together might be worth a thought ?

It's a little different tonally. I bought mine as my first Tube Screamer and it did a decent job.

I sent John my TS9DX to modify and when it came back it became my favorite pedal. It still is; it's on my Trace Elliot Velocette right now. I really like the range it has and I find it a valuable tool.

I also own a Keeley-modded TS9 (808 mods) and it does what it does, but the TS9DX is the right pedal for alot of different reasons. It's very much my swiss army knife of overdrives.

Keeley's done some interesting things to the TS9DX's....I'm dying to get ahold of one.

Re: ts9, ts9dx, ts808

I've done alot of research on this & the conclusion is:

Unless you have hundreds of $$$ or £££, get a TS-9 with the JRC4558 chip (preferably the 80's era).

It's the chip that really matters, but you will pay alot more for an original TS-808 when you can get excellent overdrive tone from a new TS-9 as long as you have a JRC4558 OP-Amp chip in. (Not the ****ty TA chip).

Also for modded pedals, get the Brown one cos Keeley is the master of bull**** & spin. Look on e-bay for TS-9 Brown Modded. They are the best & come with the JRC chip.

Re: ts9, ts9dx, ts808

Don't forget the TS5 and TS7...worth considering if money is an issue.

Re: ts9, ts9dx, ts808

The ts-9 is a little more trebly than the ts808. The "lower-fi" character of the 808 is what many consider to be the attraction to it. But the sharper character of the ts9 is what I prefer. The 9dx is identical to the ts9, but it has a few settings with extra clean gain boost. The ts7 and ts5 are very popular for mods to 808 specs, since they are so inexpensive.

I have a TS9 RI that StratDeluxer modded for me and it is significantly different than a stock TS9RI. I think the TS9 modded is one of the best OD pedals I have ever used. I use mine mainly as a clean boost in the clean channel with a Bogner Shiva and it works really well for this. Prior to me using it with my Bogner I was using it in a Deluxe Reverb and again it worked real well, but with my Super Reverb I like the Stock RI. The modded TS9 has a lot more gain and a lot more bottom than a RI does and the SR really does not need any bottom added I felt that the stock RI was a little easier for me to get just a bit of boost with this amp. With every other amp I would say that Johns mods make the TS9 a great pedal! Highlky recommend it:fingersx:

Re: ts9, ts9dx, ts808

is the ts7 good for what i want, It puts me off cause it looks cheap, is it made of plastic?

Re: ts9, ts9dx, ts808

Yup its made of plastic, which is why I didnt want one either. It seems cheap, thin and easy to break when I tried one. The sound was quite good though, but I would go for a TS-9.

Re: ts9, ts9dx, ts808

Yeah definately go for a Brown Modded TS-9 cos it has the JRC4558 chip.

You WON'T be disappointed.

I am not the biggest fan of Toobscreemers, but i would love to have a Green TS to add to my DE7.

Where did you get that Green one ?
How much, if i may ask ?

(i have this idea of a cheap 3-pedal, mini-board : TS7, FZ7 & DE7 :smokin: )

. . . ok, back to topic !

Re: ts9, ts9dx, ts808

I have a few Ibanez 7-series pedals, but they're all silver-colored. Have they been re-released with colors?
