what is the reasong for the marshall jcm2000 sounding bad. or worse than the dsl or any other good sounding marshall. i have a combo tsl. is it the wolverine speakers? is it the preamp design or the poweramp design? im kinda clueless.

Re: tsl sound is bad

One of the main problems is that it has three channels, but only two are independent.

Re: tsl sound is bad

mrid nailed it. i think it's the OD channel that is shared. both the DSLs channels are completely independent.

Re: tsl sound is bad

Don't be so cruel to my amp :P

The 100's have seperate EQ on all channels. They take some dialing in, but I like mine.

Re: tsl sound is bad

If the DSL had seprate eq for each channel then it would be my perfect amp for what i want now...the only thing if have 2 complain about the DSl is that when you use the Bass Boost on the OD channel it sounds great but on the clean channel it doesn't really, not because it gets muddy or anything but because clean just doesn't sound good with a bass boost..

Re: tsl sound is bad

Gee the TSLs I've played sound fine to me. They may not be AS GOOD as the DSL, but they can rock it, whaddup?

i wonder why the tsl i have won guitar players pick award. wtf?

Because you can't trust guitar magazine reviews. Plain and simple, has anyone ever seen a BAD review in a guitar mag? Even the P.O.S. MXR Double Shot Distortion pedal got raving reviews; they obviously never tested the product.

Re: tsl sound is bad

I roll my eyes at the reviews in the Musician's Fiend catalog. Those guys work for Musician's Fiend: of COURSE they're going to say the MIM Fender Standard Strat is fantastically amazing!

Re: tsl sound is bad

I think Guitar Player Magazine's reviews are pretty good because they do tell you the bad points in products.

However, they never say "this sucks, don't buy it". Every review is positive in some way, which just isn't the case with every guitar/amp/effect. Some are good, some are bad.

You should just read between the lines.
Like "minor construction flaws" = "the construction sucks". :)

GP's reviews are much better than GW's, that's for sure.

Re: tsl sound is bad

maybe the amp isnt sounding good to me because i have had it stock for like 2 years. do you think it would sound better if i bought all new tubes and all new speakers?

Absolutely, don't tubes have to be changed every 6 months?
not quite, power tubes should be replaced around a year to a year and a half, pre amp tubes should be replaced ever year and a half to 2 years, but ultimately it depends on the tubes and the manufacter.

Re: tsl sound is bad

New tubes will bring it to life. New speakers could help it too. I think those would sound much better with a closed cab.

Re: tsl sound is bad

What are some alternatives to the tsl, that have killer distortion and not a bad clean sound. Im talking the 60W 2x12 combos. You guys seem to be pushing the DSl but Iv heard by a few people the the dsl 1x12 40w combos are unreliable.
