Tube amp and distortion pedals at bedroom volumes?

So I'm getting the Kustom Defennder 5H head. It's gonna be my first tube amp. It's gonna be used with a V30-loaded no-name cab. I play metal and have previously used cheap clones of "metal"-pedals (Boss HM2- and MT2-clones amongst others) with my SS-amp's clean channel. Now I don't wanna max the volume on the amp because I live in a flat and am a bedroom player. So I was thinking I'd dime in some light crunch and get the distortion from the pedal. Now my question is: What about "level" or "boost"? I know that a Tubescreamer was primarily used to just boost the signal. Do I set the level knob to match the clean volume or do I lower the gain on the pedal and turn up the level knob to get distortion from the amp?

Since the speaker isn't going to move a whole lot at such a low volume, and if the amp has separate Master and Channel volumes, you should be able to max the distortion channel's volume and gain, while keeping it quiet with the Master volume.

However, it's probably not set up that way, and you'll have to just keep it on the clean channel and get all your distortion from pedals.

Boost pedals work best when the amp gain is at its max level. The boost (when set for max level and least drive) drives the incoming signal harder into the preamp stage, essentially overloading it, but doing so within safe parameters so as not to fry the input of the amp.

The amp has a one channel and one volume. That's it. It's kind of a barebones tube amp.

To get crunch from that amp you are going to have to wind it up.
You should stick w distortion pedals.
I would advise not buying anything until you have the amp in house and have played with it and tried the pedals you already own.
