Gearjoneser, perhaps you could confirm or deny a point a made in my previous post. Is it possible to use a number of pre-amps with the same poweramp... using some kind of switcher to move between the two?

Yes you can do that.

A) 350 watts is too much for anyone.
B) It does not work for any of the genres you described.
I have about 3 hours on an MF350 and in the time I spent with it, I got one decent tone on the 3rd channel. And it was a nice rock sound however still had some things lacking.
C)
hahahahahahaha. no.

sorry to rain on the parade but yeah MF's just dont cut it for me, or anyone else that i have spoken to.

I tend to agree. I found each of the channels was tweakable to something useful, but each of the channels really lacked dynamics or real quality tone. They were kind of bland, boring and generic, but I experienced that with the Road King as well.

My 8 spacer weighs about 85 lbs, including power amp ...

Yep, the one I used to have was about 90 or so. Pain in the ass to move it and a 4x12...

Mine is a bit lighter b/c my preamp/MIDI switcher/footswitch are one and the same and not in my rack (Engl Tube Toner) ...

Okay, maybe I'll skip the power amp!

I also thought ofa Pod XT Pro and VHT power amp. This would cut down on extras.

I'd go with whichever model you used most on the Vetta. Many people who use the modelling stuff only end up using one or two of the models... for example, metal players might only use the Mesa Dual Rectifier.

That's what i would do.

I was playing through a Mesa Dual Rectifier 3-channel with a Schecter Elite a few days ago and was in complete tone heaven..... :32: I'm really starting to like the duals... :) Its not all that bad without reverb. :saeek:

Re: Tube amp to replace my Line 6 Vetta???

My rack setup consisted of a PODxt Pro, Peavey PV-260 SS stereo power amp, Furman power conditioner, BBE 462 Sonic Maximizer, and a Behringer GEQ3102 dual 31-band EQ unit. The power amp was by far the heaviest unit, and without one a rack setup won't get very loud ;).

My Marshall VS 120/120 weighs a little over 20 pounds. I wish Marshall still made this amp. It has adjustable damping and a frequency mode to mimic more traditional tube amp ouput freq curves. My rack weighed a 100 lbs but I've gotten rid of some stuff.
