so today i played a couple of low watt tube amps at the local GC.

the pignose is definately out, too much money, to few features

the marshal 201 and 401 was wayyyyy to expensive, and i dont wanna buy this amp online. i also didnt love the tone.

the blues junoir was nice, i got it to start to naturally distort at like 7 volume. the fat switch was nice, but 15 watts....

the hot rod deville, well, its cool that evrything goes up to 12. the clean is nice. but im selling my amp cause the distortion sucks, and this amps distortion is almost worst

they didnt have any v-series or peaveys. right now im leaning towads a used 201 though.

Just don't get an amp you aren't gonna be happy with. Look around everywhere you can and find the right one for you.

Another option might be to save a little more money for a better amp but that's up to you. I'll look around for ya and try to post again later.

Peace easy.

this is a better amp for me. im gonna try to sell my crate gx30m, and use that in combination with the 300 or so i have, so have maybe 400-500, and scratch some more and get a tube amp. i wont get it unless i am happy with it. i dont need anything that has more than 50 watts, and i want a 12" speaker. i also want good tone, and be able to rehearse gig on this amp.

For an extra 50 bucks (550 bucks in all) you can get this-

It's a great platform for pedals and the clean tone is sweet. My guitar teacher bought one and I love it. His Les Paul through it couldn't sound better.

The regular (not blonde) version is 10 dollars more.

Also, check this one out-

Fender cleans, Marshall Crunch and 550 dollars, too.

I've never heard this one but reviews are good and it seams like a cool deal-

That's it for now. Good luck! I might have more later.

Peace.

yea, the hrd is nice, it even goes up to 12!, but 1 of the reasons i want a new amp is id like decent on board distortion. but the hrd has load of reverb, its an option, though i didnt like the one i played

the traynor, with a name that includes valve, it throws me off. i havent played one, but ill look, sounds cool

the peavey blues, looks cool, ill try one, is 15" speaker better than 12", most amps use 12" no?

thanks, ill check them out

No problem. 15 inch speakers have different tonal capabilities and projection than 12 inch speakers. I THINK one of the vintage Fender amps (bassman or vibroverb or vibrolux, maybe) has a 15 inch speaker. Sorry I can't help you with that.

Peace and good luck with the new amp. Let me know how it turns out.

The original 64 Fender Vibroverb that SRV used had a 15" speaker in it.

The new Reissue Vibroverbs have them as well. I really love that speaker. Really nice tones.

My new custom amp (If it ever gets done!) will have a single 15" in the combo and a 2x10 extension cab. TOgether they ought to just kill.

i thought 15" was a "standard" bass size speaker, while 12" was "standard" for guitars.....4X12 cabs, most good bass amps have 15"'s......

you learn something new everyday

on a side note, i played one of the Fender bassman RI's ('54?, tweed).......oh my god........to bad that is like double what i want to spend.........oh my god.............best amp in the store (granted they didnt have any vox tube amps) even better than the JCM's, imo.....one day, i will own one

Don't let the Blues jr's 15 watts scary you. It's a LOUD 15 watts.
I've seen many guy's gig with them. I use a 15 watt princeton myself,And I
play in a band with keys and a horn section. i never had a problem Cutting thru. I always carry a spare Mic with me.If I have a problem the amp goes into the P.A. ( never had to use that mic
so far)
