Tube amps on budget

Re: Tube amps on budget

What kind of music do you play? What guitars and effects do you want to use with the amp?

Re: Tube amps on budget

Used Peavey classic or Carvin would run about $350

Re: Tube amps on budget

A Peavey valveking can be had for less than $300 but they don't sound as good

Re: Tube amps on budget

I play hard rock, classic rock, blues, some metal ... I'm lookig for new amp, I know some about Fender (something like Vaporizer), Peavey has valveking ... I don't know much about other brands in my price range. Amp should have something about 10-20 watts, but not much more. I'm not using effects often, but just need some reverb in amp...

Don't laugh.........Fender Super Champ X2 is a tube amp that is also a modeling amp that is tweakable using a free online software called FUSE. I bought the head so I can use whatever cab and speaker I choose. you could also buy the combo and change the speaker. Good useable sounds, 2 channel 15 watt amp.

Re: Tube amps on budget

For budget tube amps i like Traynor the best and Laney if you can try it out at the store before buying it to make sure it is working right. Check out the Laney cub12r. Can operate on 1 or 15 watts so its great for small gigs, recording or just practicing.

Re: Tube amps on budget

I am right with you OP. When I get my tax refund this year I plan on spending about the same amount on one. I was looking pretty hard at Bugera and the Valveking also. I want to play hard blues, punk, blues punk (Lol) and maybe some harder stuff. The only problem I'm having is I want at least 50 Watts, preferably switchable down to at least 5 Watts, preferably 1 Watt if possible. I'm way to picky to have such a low budget.

Sounds like you should be looking into an amp with power scaling.

Re: Tube amps on budget

+1 for the Super Champ X2, or the older XD model. Great tones, good effects, and when you wind them up above 6 on the volume, they start to give up some power tube goodness. Mucho bang for the buck.

Re: Tube amps on budget

You can pick up a Traynor YCV 40 for under 300, they're a very decent tube amp. Plenty of volume for small gigs and jamming with a drummer, sound decent at more moderate volumes as well.

Re: Tube amps on budget

Funny I have a clean Classic 30 with new tubes and fully serviced and recapped for $300 on consignment for the last 7 months and not a sniff.
They sound really good and are bargains.
