Tube Combo's with an attenuator

I know there was a thread earlier about using an attenuator with a 5150 combo however I can;t find it. I am interested to know if it is possible to use an attenuator with a combo amp with a single 12" speaker. I am mainly looking at the Mesa Mark IV if I can come up with enough money. If this is possible which is the best attenuator for the money? the THD hotplate?

The speaker size does not matter, you can use an attenuator with any speaker combination. The only thing that matters is that your amp's output impedance matches the attenuator. So if you have an 8 ohm 12 inch speaker, make sure the attenuator is an 8 ohm as well. The THD is a great one. The Weber attenuators are really good too.

Big amps sound awesome with antennuators. In fact any tube amp sounds great with an attenuator. I highly recommend them.

All I have to add is that it's a lot easier if the combo's speaker plugs into a 1/4" jack as opposed to being hard-wired. That way, you run a speaker cable from the jack to the attenuator and plug the speaker into the attenuator.
